Dave Hartline of the Catholic Report has a couple of interviews that might interest those of you who are watching it:

Here’s an interview with one of the young men, Dan:

Dave Hartline   Dan what was it like having to discern a vocation on camera? I imagine it was very impersonal.

Dan DeMatte   It was very difficult.  There were days when I could barely find one half hour to pray.  I had to watch what I said because in the back of your mind you don’t want to say anything that would draw negative light to the Church.  However, I knew that God had a hand in all of this so I accepted it as his will.

Dave also has an interview with one of the priests involved:

Dave Hartline   Father Jeff, was it difficult working with young men discerning a vocation all the while trying to fit that into a Hollywood production?

Father Jeff Coning We did the best we could. The producers were sincere in their efforts and we tried to walk a fine line between discerning a vocation and somehow translating that into television.

Dave Hartline    What about the scene where Dan is carrying a cross for many miles.  What can you tell us about that?

Father Jeff Coning  Well I  have gotten beaten up over that.  I am really not an ogre.  We tried to work with the producers and Dan’s time constraints and this is the best way we could show what carrying a cross means in light of a priestly vocation.

Dave Hartline   It was certainly a powerful scene.

Father Jeff Coning   I wouldn’t ordinarily recommend something like that but for this situation it worked out best.

Kudos to Dave for getting these interviews!
