Bill Cork’s got the beginnings of a discussion on Catholic speakers and their (our) fees over on his blog. I’ve put in my two cents.

Bottom line: I’m not anywhere near the top of the list in terms of demand, and I do think that those of us engaged in speaking and published should be engaged in a continual examination of conscience about what we do and how we offer it, and Catholic speakers are no less susceptible than anyone else to falling into ego-traps and a business mentality. However, experienced speakers have probably been burned by hosting organizations, in one way or another, so many times, that the fee schedule they have has probably evolved out of those experiences, as a preventative strike of sorts.
