The great discovery of this past week’s journey was Jason’s Deli – a not-tiny chain, but one that we’d never encountered before. Much to my daughter’s chagrin, we ended up eating at it three – three – times in the course of the week in various parts of the Southeast. I don’t know why she objected – just like she used to get chicken fingers or nuggets everywhere she went, she now tends toward club sandwiches or some kind of chicken wrap, and Jason’s had those. As well as a very good salad bar with a decidedly organic tint and, pretty good soup (my addiction) and free mini-muffins and soft-serve ice cream. Listen, when you’ve got two little boys, a no-waiting situation, free muffins and free ice cream is a solid formula for success. Not to speak of repeat dining.
And no, I didn’t make it to my old favorite Crisper’s this time. But there was a stop at a Sweet Tomatoes and my friend Dorothy took Katie and me to this great place in Gainesville called the Bento Cafe.
Don’t laugh, people. All of that’s an exotic, rare treat for those of us who dwell in the land where this
