Today is the feast of St. Dominic, founder, of course, of the Dominicans.

Opregister (I appreciate Dominicans as much as anyone – it seems to me that they have weathered the post-Vatican II storms with less damage than some other orders. But I have to say that when I think of Dominicans, I think of something that has nothing to do with Dominicans, actually.

When I started graduate school in 83 or whenever it was, at Vanderbilt Divinity School, I noticed a couple of fellows who wore shirts with a small "OP" logo over the pocket. Kind of snazzy logos, actually. Being thoroughly intimidated by my first semester, having no real clue as yet as to the relgious makeup of the student body (I didn’t think there were that many Catholics, but still…), I kept idly wondering…gee. why are these Dominicans here and when did they get so stylish?

Uh…Ocean Pacific. It took me a while (it usually does), but I finally got it.

I’m sure you have more intelligent reflections to share, so…do.
