They talk about church growth (an enormous issue down there, especially with the priestly vocations dearth, which the Bishop is working hard to remedy.), immigration (one of his big issues – he was very involved with the Haitian community in South Florida), and this last question:
Q. You just came back from the bishops’ semi-annual meeting. The news reports that came out of that meeting were talking about the changes to the Mass. Is it too early to comment on those changes?
A. As I tell people, they’re not changes to the Mass, they’re changes to the translation. They certainly will not be as abrupt and earth-shattering as the changes of the early 1970s, when we went from something completely in Latin to the vernacular. . . . (The Vatican) wants a closer adherence to the Latin, and part of that is aesthetic as well.
