An investigation by the archdiocese has found the developer acted in “good faith” in trying to get the church’s approval to use Bernardin’s name. Developer Daniel McCaffery acted after Monsignor Kenneth Velo, Bernardin’s longtime executive assistant, gave his blessing to the name. Velo said he spoke to Bernardin’s sister, who he says called it a “lovely gesture.”
