Once upon a time I was at a lecture on the historicity of the Gospels by Raymond Brown, S.S. (who is, I hope, no relation to Dan) and at the end he took written questions from the audience. The last question was, “what do you think of the theories that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, and that when He was crucified he was actually drugged and that that’s how He was resurrected?” Fr Brown’s response was patient and kind: “the texts that we have are fascinating enough”. Amen
