A portrait of a convent on Staten Island

Arranging care for an older loved one — a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle — is difficult and complex, at best. Does he or she need skilled nursing home care? Maybe he or she is frail and just needs some assistance to remain independent and live at home? Will insurance pay, and what about Medicare, Medicaid and the ABC’s of entitlement programs he or she may qualify for? These are just some of the questions that need to be answered before decisions can be made.

Now multiply the situation by ten, and you begin to get an idea of the dilemma facing members of religious congregations.
