Police use cell phone signal to track down drunk in distress
A drunk driver calls the cops for help after veering off the roadway and into a drainage ditch.
It happened Saturday, December 31st at 12:15AM in Concord Township.
Police say William Bednariak called from his cell phone for help, but was unable to pinpoint his exact location.
Central dispatch was able to locate a general area for Bednariak through global positioning on his cell. Bednariak was located approximately five miles away from where he reported himself to be. Had it not been for the tracking by dispatchers, he would not have been found for some period of time.
The investigation found Bednariak was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. (YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Fortunately, no injuries resulted.
Bednariak was processed for OVI and later booked into the Lake County Jail.
