The power of prayer is unbelievable. Prayer can help heal loved ones and friends from sickness, help restore faith when it was lost, bring people peace. It can also help bring people to know Christ on a deep personal level. Knowing God on a personal level takes time, patience and commitment. There is nothing quite like the power of prayer and a one on one conversation with God.
He wants you to come to Him in prayer every day, no matter how you may feel. He will listen to your prayers of sadness, frustration, joy peace and anger. Through prayer, you will find the peace that you have been longing for.
I prayed for a friend of mine to find Christ for many years. At night, I would stay up for hours at a time praying for their salvation to be restored and for God to work on my friend’s heart. I also prayed that their life would be changed. I knew that God heard my prayer, I also knew that he was working behind the scenes, somehow in His ways. Years later that friend finally came to Christ. It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders knowing that my friend is saved.
The realization that God answers prayers, can always bring people peace. The fact that He is always willing to listen to us and help us, should make us want to come to Him in prayer more often. We don’t have to be scared to come to God to tell Him how we feel because He already knows how we feel. He wants us to express our prayers to Him freely, without the fear of judgement. The prayers you speak, are between you and Him. No one else. Knowing that He can and will intercede for you in His way and His timing can bring much comfort.
Some people may be intimidated by God. That can hinder their understanding of His grace mercy and love for them and for all people. 1 John 5:14-15 says, 14 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask for anything according to His will he hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him.”
2 Chronicles 6:21 says: 21 “Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.”
The power of prayer can change lives. People may not believe in someone, who they can’t see but, God hears them calling out for help even if they don’t think they’re crying out for help. Someone can pray for you and those prayers can help get your life back on track.
You can pray for others and for yourself out loud, or in the silence of your own heart. It doesn’t matter how or where you are when you pray. It can be in the middle of a grocery store out loud or in your office at work in private. No matter where you pray or how you pray, God will always hear you. God doesn’t care about what you look like or how stained your heart is with sin, when you come to Him in prayer. He wants to hear the desires of your heart, no matter what you may have done. If your heart hurts for any reason, tell Him.
Psalm 107:28-30 says 28 “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.29 He stilled the storm to a whisper. The waves of the sea were hushed. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.”
Mathew 7:7 says, 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” This verse says that when we seek God in prayer, we will find Him. When we ask for something in His name, it will be given to us. Even though He may make us wait until a certain time to receive what we ask for. If we knock at God’s door He will answer us in His best way. He knows exactly what is needed in life for each of us.
Matthew 21:22 says, 22″ And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” This verse indicates that we must keep the faith in God to receive what we want in prayer. If we believe what we pray for is already going to happen and that we have already received it and are going to receive it, God will grant it, if it is in our best interest and will better us as individuals. He knows what belongs in your life and what and who doesn’t.
He knows the desires of our hearts before we even have a chance to speak them or even think them. Prayer is such a powerful tool. Some may be confused as to how God can know what we are thinking or want to pray about even before we do ourselves, but that is because He is all-knowing.
One verse that has always stood out for me is Romans 8:26, “26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. “27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” I found this verse when I couldn’t figure out what to pray for. Nor did I know how to put my prayer into words. Out of the blue I turned to this verse and it has helped me through many hard times and brought comfort that God knows what is on my heart even when I don’t.
Prayer can move mountains. Prayer can be the gateway between chaos and peace.  God can use your prayers to help rescue you, your family and others in ways you can’t even fathom.
