matt maher
For a while now, I’ve been exploring what I think are the different meanings behind Christian songs. For this blog, I wanted to do a song by the popular Christian singer Matt Maher. “Because He Lives” by Matt Maher is a beautiful song that reminds us that we are able to live out our lives with the true meaning of salvation. It also reminds us of the true meaning of Easter. The song tells the story of the singer Matt Maher realizing that He is only alive because of God and Jesus. It is a personal revelation for each person who listens to it, about how Jesus has saved them. It is a song that is often played around Easter. It reminds us because He lives, we can have complete peace, salvation and enjoy our lives without fear. This song can be and often is a personal testament to the people around us that Jesus not only changed our lives, but He also saved our lives. It is a personal testament to what God has done in our lives and what Jesus can and is willing to do for all people.
The first verse is as follows: “I believe in the Son. I believe in the risen One. I believe I overcome. By the power of His blood. Chorus: Amen, Amen. I’m alive, I’m alive. Because He lives. Amen, Amen. Let my song join the one that never ends. Because He lives. We do believe in the Son. We do believe in God and Jesus as the risen one. We do end up overcoming anything and can overcome everything by the power of His blood. We are all alive because of His sacrifice on the cross. We’re all alive because He was raised from the dead and He lives now and forever in each one of us. His grace upon us can be shown in every single aspect of our lives. We can sing for joy forever, knowing that we are held in His hands. It is a relief to know that the ultimate sacrifice for our sins has already been carried out.
Second verse: I was dead in the grave. I was covered in sin and shame. I heard mercy call my name. He rolled the stone away. Chorus: Amen, Amen. I’m alive, I’m alive, Because He lives. Amen, Amen. Let my song join the one that never ends. We were dead in our graves before Jesus saved us. We’re all covered in sin and shame. We can hear God calling our names if we listen hard enough in our lives. The words He rolled the stone away mean that, He rolled the stone away from His grave and from our graves and saved us. He saved us from eternal punishment in Hell by taking our sins upon Himself, because He loves us that much. He was willing to die for us. Our song of joy doesn’t ever have to end, either. We have the privilege of telling others about what God has done for us and how He has changed our lives.
Bridge: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, every fear is gone. I know He holds my life, my future in His hands. Chorus:  Amen, Amen. I’m alive, I’m alive. Because He lives. Amen, Amen. Let my song join the one that never ends. Chorus: Amen, Amen. I’m alive, I’m alive. Because He lives. Amen, Amen. Let my song join the one that never ends. Because He lives. Because He lives. The bridge literally speaks for itself. It means because He lives we can face tomorrow head on. Because He lives every fear is gone and can be gone from our lives. We don’t have to be afraid of anything. We can realize that He holds out lives our future in His hands. He knows what will happen today, what will happen tomorrow, or if there even is a tomorrow for each one of us.
I don’t know about you, but I’d so much rather would have Him in control of my life than to try and take things on in life with my own power.  To know that His sacrifice paid the price for our sins and that we can have an eternal place with Him, means the world to a lot of believers.
In our lives, He knows what will happen every moment and every second of our lives. He knows when the right times are for specific things in our lives and when we should just be still and listen to Him. Remember you are saved from sin, because He lives and overcame death, sin and the power of Satan.
