Casting Crowns just released another beautiful song called “Oh My Soul”. It tells the story of how every single one of us worry in life. It also explains how to get rid of that worry by trusting in God and His promises. The lyrics are as follows:
First verse: “Oh, my soul. Oh, how you worry. Oh, how you’re weary, from fearing you lost control. This was the one thing, you didn’t see coming. And no one would blame you, though. If you cried in private. If you tried to hide it away, so no one knows. No one will see, if you stop believing. Chorus: Oh, my soul. You are not alone. There’s a place where fear has to face the God you know. One more day, He will make a way. Let Him show you how, you can lay this down. ‘Cause you’re not alone. “
We all fear that we’ve lost control of our lives. The worries of this life can make us go crazy if we let them. But God has a perfect plan even amid our struggles and worries. Just when we think we have it all together something comes up and Satan brings the weight of the world down on us in order to give us the fear that he knows is within us. Satan wants nothing more than for us to live in fear. Satan wants all of us to feel as though nothing in our lives will ever get any better, because we lost control. No one should ever blame you if you broke down in private and cried out to God. If we try to hide our troubles from God, we can’t because He is omniscient and omnipresent as well as omnipotent. This means that He is all knowing, all powerful and forever present in our lives. We have the ultimate choice to continue to trust God and His plan for our lives, or we could stop believing in Him and try to have control over our own lives.
The great news is that you aren’t alone. There is a place where the fear that’s in your heart and in your soul, must face God head on. You can turn your fears and other trials over to Him at any time day or night, no matter where you are or no matter what is going on in your life. Just when you think you can’t take one more day or even one more hour of the life you’re living, that is normally when god shows Himself and His ultimate power. That’s normally when He gets our attention, when we least expect Him to show His face and His might and power to us. Just when we think it can’t get any worse in our life, God makes ways where there seems to be no way.
Second verse: “Here and now. You can be honest. I won’t try to promise that someday it all works out. ‘Cause this is the valley. And even now, He is breathing on your dry bones. And there will be dancing. There will be beauty where beauty was ash and stone. This much I know. Oh, my soul. You are not alone. There’s a place where fear has to face the God you know. One more day, He will make a way. Let Him show you how, you can lay this down. “
You can be honest with the people you love and you can also be honest with God. He already knows you more than you know yourself. You don’t have to believe that lie that it always works out in life with no problems. This life is the valley of the shadow of death at times, but you can remain strong in your faith and trust in Him to give you the right way out. Once you realize how good you have it with God in your life and at your side, you will see the ash turn to beauty, your worries turn to peace and your stress will start to go away as long as you stay close to God. Ask Him to show you how you can lay your burdens and problems down at the foot of the cross.
Bridge: “I’m not strong enough, I can’t take anymore. (You can lay it down, you can lay it down). And my shipwrecked faith will never get me to shore. (You can lay it down, you can lay it down). Can He find me here? Can He keep me from going under?”
Don’t believe the lies that the world and Satan puts in your head. You are strong enough to take on whatever happens in your life. You can take whatever life throws at you. You can also lay anything down at the foot of the cross asking God to help you through it. You aren’t shipwrecked in your faith. Your faith may be shaken but you’re not down or out for that long. If you think your faith will not get you to shore or that you’re lost because you feel shaken in your faith walk, you can always turn back to God any time in life. God can find you in any place that you may be.
“Oh, my soul. You’re not alone. There’s a place where fear has to face the God you know. One more day, He will make a way. Let Him show you how, you can lay this down. ‘Cause you’re not alone. Oh, my soul, you’re not alone.”
Let God’s peace overcome you by letting His grace into your life. You’re never alone because He will never leave you or forsake you. Don’t worry as much and waste your life in the process. Life is too short to not enjoy it. Don’t let the worries control your life. Give your burdens and worries to God. Lay everything at the foot of the cross. Pray about it and let God take care of the rest.
