I never really understood the phrase, “anything worthwhile is worth fighting for” until I started to pursue my dreams. We see people’s success but we don’t see what went down behind closed doors. Last night, Lady Gaga said this,”And if you are at home, and you’re sitting on your couch and you’re watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work. I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about, you know…it’s not about winning. But what it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion. And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going. Thank you!”

Then this morning my girlfriend sent me… I woke up to this.

Post by Laura Numeroff

This is the first Mouse Cookie rejection.  She attached her rejection letter. You know who I’m talking about, the author who wrote If You Give A Mouse A Cookie books. She goes on to say…I wanted to be published by Harper & Row because they did Stuart Little or Simon & Schuster because of Eloise.  After this rejection, I sent the ms. to nine more publishers. After almost a year of sending the ms. out and waiting, I heard there was a new children’s book editor at Harper so I decided to try again.

I had just broken up with my musician boyfriend ( drummer of Night Ranger) and my heart was broken. And, then I got a phone call from Laura Geringer, who told me that they wanted to publish my book. What boyfriend? Whenever I talk to kids, I always say, “What if I gave up after the sixth rejection?” So, never give up.

See there’s a map and on your life map of dreams you will enter a town or perhaps even a metropolitan city of disappointments, rejections, NO’s and closed doors bolted shut. You won’t be able to breathe. You will feel trapped in this God forsaken town but if you keep moving through it, something will shift. Someone will believe in you. Someone will see your vision. Someone will see your heart in your work and say, “we want what you have.” It takes grit. Don’t let obstacles stop you, it’s just part of the grand plan, that’s all.
