Our relationship to money impacts every aspect of our lives including our work, our families, friends and marriages. All too often, our decisions and actions around money are fear-based because when it comes to money, most of us feel out of control. Even in better economic times this can be true.

However, money decisions that are fear-based are reactions, not choices. These fear-based reactions come from the need to control and are truly lacking in any real power. When we
can slow down and make conscious choices about money based upon love and faith, we stand in the power and presence of God, and can trust that all of our needs will be met.

Our negative and fearful associations surrounding money often conspire against us and sabotage our efforts at creating the life, relationships and financial security we greatly desire.
In order for this to shift, we must re-create a belief system that is filled with positive images along with language that supports and reinforces the reality we wish to create.

When we have negative thoughts and beliefs about money, we block the flow of money from our lives. Just as our thoughts about money are infinitely powerful, our words are even more so. Together, our thoughts and words have creative power and energy to either increase – or decrease – the flow of money in our lives. If we want to tap into the power we possess to create and manifest a better financial reality, we must become very conscious of our thoughts, words, intentions and actions.

Especially in times of difficulty, remember to continually focus on what we do want. This economic crisis is the perfect opportunity to create a new relationship with money and our
finances. Here’s an exercise that will help you think of money and finances in a new way.

Using relationships as the metaphor, begin to think in terms of what kind of money relationship you are seeking. If you were to place an ad in the personal column seeking a partner, you would want to have a pretty clear idea of what it is you are looking for before you placed your ad. Otherwise, you’re not likely to receive what you’re hoping for. The clearer you are, the more likely you can magnetize anything in your life, be it relationship with a person, a job or money. In this case, it is important to be clear about what kind of relationship you desire to have with money. Write a personal ad that addresses your intention. Here’s an example:

“Spiritual being seeking a relationship with money that is conscious, loving, trustworthy, fulfilling, co-creative and prosperous. I am ready to receive this relationship into my life and to
embrace this prosperity with care and attention so that together we may realize our greatest good.”

Now, write your own statement of what it is you desire in your relationship with money. When you are done, repeat the following words:

“I am ready and willing to receive my perfect relationship with money and finances into my life with grace and gratitude. I consider it done and so it is. Amen. “

Tape this intention to your bathroom mirror and repeat it out loud throughout the day.
