7 Celebrities Who Share Their Faith Over Social Media

Social media can be a very powerful tool. While social media for some is the constant sharing of the “low how good I look selfie” for others, it’s so much more. It can be a communication channel where we share our humanity encountering Christ. It can also be a tool used to celebrate the goodness of God. These celebrities have used the platform for just that: celebrating their love for Jesus and encouraging others to do the same. When people have criticized these celebrities about their faith, online and offline, they haven’t backed down or shied away from what they believed. Jesus has pulled them through some of life’s biggest storms and they have been moved to spread that message with their followers. Here are seven celebrities who share their faith over social media.

Selena Gomez

Singer Selena Gomez actively shares God’s message of love on social media. On Twitter, she posted a snapshot of a Bible verse from Genesis: “I will make a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” She paired the image with the caption: “It’s not about what you have, it’s what you can give.” With several mentions of Jesus and frequent Bible messages on her social media pages, it’s no surprise that Gomez is a Christian. Gomez revealed in a Twitter question-and-answer session last year that her song “Nobody” is about her relationship with God. In an interview with the Christian Post, she explained “I wrote this song about the one thing that holds it all together for me even when I can’t bear to do it myself.”

Singer Demi Lovato finds comfort in her faith. Her book “Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year” a collection of daily devotionals, begins with a Bible verse. She took to social media to remind fans of the power of God in their daily lives. “I love it when God does little things to show you little signs to say ‘you CAN turn your day around!!!’” she wrote. Lovato credits God for her success and overcoming obstacles In an interview with Life & Style magazine, she explained how the past few years have been less about religion and more about her personal relationship with God. In the height of the media circus surrounding her rehab incident, she tweeted: “Sometimes it seems like God just keeps throwing crap my way and I get SO angry with him…But there’s never a doubt in my mind He’s gonna pull me through it all. I know you’re there God…He never fails to show me He’s by my side through. Even in the tough times.”

Singer Justin Bieber openly talks about his faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ, particularly online. He uses social media as a platform to share his own faith message and encourage others to follow Jesus. When the Christian devotional Jesus Calling was released, he encouraged his fans to start reading the book. He took to Instagram and shared a quote from the book that included two Bible verses from Psalms and 1 Corinthians, in which Christians are advised to trust in the Lord. Bieber regularly attends church. When he was getting in trouble with the law, he was reportedly seen attending church more and more. When he’s been at some of his lowest points, God has grounded him.

Ally Brooke Hernandez

Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke Hernandez is a Christian who isn’t afraid to share the message of Jesus. She instagrammed a picture of one her favorite Bible verses from Joshua 1:9. “I’ve commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged. I am the LORD your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go,” the verse read. She has also been known to Tweet encouraging messages about Christ, like “Jesus loves you more than you know,” which was retweeted more than 11,000 times. Hernandez also encouraged Harmonizers to pray for her mother on Instagram when she was undergoing surgery. She was so overwhelmed by the love and support of the followers she said, “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has prayed, donated and wished her well. I will never be able to repay you for the kindness and generosity you’ve shown…We are nervous of course, but have all of our faith in God.”
