Alice Cooper
As with most rock stars, the life Alice Cooper lived a party lifestyle that included a lot of heavy drinking. Things continued to spiral out of control, but after some health issues and hitting a personal rock bottom, Cooper was able to find God once again. Cooper now does Bible study daily and goes to church every Sunday. He also proudly says that his three kids have never had any trouble with drugs or alcohol.
LL Cool J
Rapper and actor LL Cool J has been in the Hollywood spotlight for an incredibly long time, but that hasn't changed his relationship with God. For LL Cool J, pretty much everything in his life revolves around his faith in God and the African Methodist Episcopal church. He said in one interview, “I don’t make moves without consulting God. That’s dangerous.”
Gabby Douglas
Gymnastic gold medalist Gabby Douglas was exposed to Christ at an early age, with her mom encouraging her and her siblings to read the Bible and be strong in their faith. She’s carried that faith all the way to the Olympics and beyond. In an interview with the Huffington Post, she discussed how big a role faith plays in her life, saying she doesn’t know where she’d be without it today.
Prince
The world knew Prince as a pop star with a flamboyant, larger-than-life stage presence, but at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, St. Louis Park congregation, Prince was just an understated man in a simple black suit. "I like to believe my inspiration comes from God," Prince told CNN's Larry King in December 1999. "I've always known God is my creator. Without him, nothing works."
Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland was born in Atlanta to a devout Methodist family. Like many religious stars, she credits her success to God, saying: "It’s been my faith that has gotten me to where I am right now. It’s been my faith that has kept me in the game for 15 years when I wanted to give up at certain times." Rowland’s music career began in church and much of Rowland’s charity work revolves around her Houston Methodist church. Now, she says she can’t go on tour without her Bible.
Will Smith
Will Smith is one of the biggest actors of the day, but he doesn't let that get to his head. Smith was raised in a Christian family and went to a Catholic school before becoming a large star. He’s known for respecting his friends and colleagues in the industry despite their differences in faith, while staying strong in his own. He was quoted saying: "I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. And I respect all people and all paths."
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson got her career singing in a school choir, and was raised a strict Southern Baptist. While acknowledging the importance of religion during her childhood, Clarkson has confirmed that it’s become even more important to her in adulthood. She said: "I always grew up in church. I was the leader of our youth group. I’ve always grown up pretty close to church and with God. But I think I’ve just gotten a lot closer just because He’s the only One I can lean on."
These celebrities are not afraid to say how they feel about God. They are great examples of how Christians can make a real impact with others through their words and actions.
