Reading like any good romantic movie film script, these celebrities have love lives that would be silver screen worthy. From chance encounters, to finding their ‘one’ when all hope is nearly lost. Too often, we forget that celebrities are human, and that not every aspect of their relationships read like a fairy-tale romance. Many celebrity couples have relationships that have endured many ups and downs over the years. Sometimes these ups and downs led to break ups that the world observed and even picked apart. These stars have been open about what they took away from their high-profile splits and eventual reconciliations. Many of these couples have admitted that their trip to the alter wasn’t easy and certain issues within the relationships led to some time apart before getting back together. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

Pop star Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth’s love story is one for the ages. They first met on the set of Nicholas Sparks, movie, The Last Song and they were the picture of young love. But their journey together didn’t come without its major share of ups and downs. There’s been drama, a lifetime of rumors, sweet reunions, and of course, that Neil Lane diamond engagement ring. In a revealing interview with Billboard, Cyrus spoke about the reason behind her 2013 split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth and their rekindled romance. “I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard,” Cyrus told the magazine. “Suddenly, you’re like, ‘I don’t recognize you anymore.’ We had to refall for each other." And that they did. They’ve been happy ever since.

Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade

If you follow Actress Gabrielle Union and basketball star Dwayne Wade on social media, they look like they have the perfect romance, but they are both open about the fact that they took their time getting to the alter. One stop on their journey even included a brief split. Wade and Union began dating in 2009 but briefly split in 2013. During that period, Wade reportedly fathered a child with friend Aja Metoyer. But their love for each other didn’t waver and they eventually got together soon after. Wade said they had to work out scheduling and relationship issues together. “We supported each other…but at the end of the day we came back together and said, ‘Listen, we want to continue this, we want to continue to try to get better each day,' and she’s been with me, and I’ve been with her all summer long. We’re going strong now," Wade said on The Tonight Show. Wade and Union married in August 2014.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

While their relationship is now very low-profile, there was a time when singer Justin Timberlake and actress Jessica Biel’s relationship was very much so in the public spotlight. Back in 2011, Timberlake was very open about how difficult the split from his then ex-girlfriend Biel was. The two began dating in 2007 and broke up in March 2011. A few months later, Timberlake gave a heartbreaking interview to Vanity Fair about how much Biel meant to him. “She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life,” he told Vanity Fair. “In my 30 years, she is the most special person, OK? So I protect it, and until somebody shows me what would be more fulfilling at this point, that’s what I have to do…I would rather not talk about her, because it’s hurtful to me.” It probably didn’t come as a surprise to many when the couple rekindled their romance in October 2011. They were married in October 2012 and have been going strong ever since.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd

Actress Kristen Bell and actor Dax Shepherd look picture perfect, a couple that fans love and even envy on the low. Despite being the picture of true love now, Bell revealed to PopSugar that her Shepherd actually broke up with her shortly after they began dating. “He sat me down and said, ‘I can’t have this right now. I think you’re wonderful, but I am still dating other people,’” she said. “And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he told me we weren’t in the same place.” However, it didn’t take him long to realize he made a mistake. “He called me and he was like, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they’re just not as interesting as you, and I don’t know what I’m doing,’ and he came back,” Bell said. Everything eventually worked out and Shepherd and Bell got married in 2013. Bell doesn’t let him forget that they almost were never married. “I still always remind him of when he broke up with me,” she said.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend probably win the award for cutest couple online with their playful tiffs and displays of affection often catching attention. While they may be one of the internet’s favorite couples, Legend revealed to The Guardian that his relationship with Teigen was almost over a particularly stressful day. “I was really stressed and busy,” Legend said. “I was just like: ‘I’d just be happier single right now.'” Well, Teigen wasn’t having it and she wasn’t afraid to say so. She told him no, they weren’t breaking up. Technically, this wasn’t a real breakup. Teigen later tweeted clarifying that she recognized that Legend was having a particularly tough day. “It wasn’t a typical breakup,” she tweeted. “He was on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiny face about everything and so yeah, I was like ‘no’.” They’ve been the picture of true love ever since.
