Adam Sandler, who has made many of us laugh, roll our eyes, or rekindled the inner child in us, will turn 50 this year. And oh, boy, the once lanky comedian is still full of child’s-play, goofiness and boundless energy. Sandler was always considered a class clown in grade school. He recalled his time in sixth grade as being a fun time to explore the comedic world. “Sixth grade was a big time, in my childhood, of hoops and friendship, and coming up with funny things,” he said. The shenanigans didn’t stop when Sandler became older. While attending Manchester Central High School, he was still considered the prankster, and in college, too. Born in Brooklyn, New York and one of six children, the “Wedding Singer,” and “Happy Gilmore,” actor launched a career into comedy at 17 and remained steadfast through the years after his brother encouraged him to pursue his comedic gifts. Being Discovered

Sandler began at the Boston Comedy Club and soon became a member of MTV's Remote Control. Saturday Night Live would become his next gig in 1991 after Dennis Miller helped him get a job. Sandler then cultivated a following with the Hanukkah Song, and by creating outrageous characters like Canteen Boy, Opera Man, and Audience McGee on the show. By 1995, Sandler landed his first starring film role, “Billy Madison.” This led to many other projects like “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Anger Management,” and the romantic comedy “Just Go with It.” Sandler also had movie stints in the ’80s with “Going Overboard” and starring on the Cosby Show as Theo’s friend, Smitty. “I was just a young guy who was excited to become a comedian and an actor and I just wanted to get to do what I got to do,” he admitted. Whatever chemistry he had and has, it worked, and fans still follow his career.

Sandler, who has a burger named after him at a Manchester diner, also has a dramatic side. He joined other comedians, like Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Will Smith and the late Robin Williams in moving away from comedy. Biography wrote "Sandler has continued to vary his work from broad comedies to more weighty material. Remaking 1974 comedy "The Longest Yard," he played a convict who organizes a football game between the inmates and the guards.” Sandler did a solid job in the film and moved on to star in “Punch-Drunk Love,” and “Reign Over Me.” He always said he never paid attention to reviews, anyway. Either way he’s happy with the work. “When I got into this I never thought about reviews. I never thought about what people would say about me. I was just a young guy who was excited to become a comedian and an actor and I just wanted to get to do what I got to do,” he said according to reports.

Parenthood

Sandler loves being a parent, and loves family time. He is married to actress Jackie Titone and has two daughters Sadie Madison Sandler, and Sunny Madeline Sandler. His children give him the most joy in life, and the wild celebrity life includes getting to bed before 10, he shared with the Huffington Post. “Last night, my wife and I were falling asleep at 8 and we said, ‘No, we’re not giving into this sleep. Maybe we should go see a movie after the kids fall asleep.’ Well, the kids weren’t falling. I’m in one room saying, ‘Twenty more minutes until they fall asleep. The next thing I know, I walk out of that room and my wife and my other daughter are curled up sleeping. I’m up half the night with the other one. Welcome to parenthood.” Overall the joy he receives and exhaustion is all part of being a parent. “I’m a worrier. I’ve learned in life now that when your kid is upset you’re rocked until they’re not upset anymore. Even when they’re not upset, you’re rocked. You’re always nervous because you want your kid to be happy.”

Growing Up

Sandler remembered an incident when he had a tantrum as a kid, and was quite dramatic. “As a kid, I'd go into the bathroom when I was having a tantrum. I'd be in the bathroom crying, studying myself in the mirror. I was preparing for future roles.” Growing up, the award-winning talent said his dad, Stan, inspired him with his passion for raising a family. “I mean, I look at my dad. He was twenty when he started having a family, and he was always the coolest dad. He did everything for his kids, and he never made us feel like he was pressured. I know that it must be a great feeling to be a guy like that.” No matter, his family remained by his side during his meteoric rise to fame, and his childhood paved a way for many interesting stories for us to also enjoy.

Charity

Maybe you never knew this, but Sandler has given a lot of money to charity. He donated one million dollars to the Boys and Girls Club in Manchester, New Hampshire. He reportedly said when he was young the Boys and Girls Club was a great place to be a kid and play sports and socialize. With a salary of 37 million dollars in 2013, the also serious Sandler has given to charities like Autism Speaks, Toys for Tots, Feeding America, the Chris Farley Foundation, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Making people laugh has never faded. “I do love the films I've done in the past. I work hard in my movies and my friends work hard and we're trying to make people laugh and I'm very proud of that." Sadly, Stan Sandler died in 2003, but his legacy remains with his son Adam. He once said he understands why his dad was in a bad mood all the time, now that he’s a parent.
