9 Celebrity Children Crushed by the Fame of Their Family

To be a celebrity child isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Imagine! Money and connections are available in an instant. Celebrity children probably have it made and can probably achieve pretty much anything compared to those who come from traditional families. Many of them walk on the red carpet at an early age or meet famous people by making a simple phone call. But there is also a dark side to being a celebrity child: the constant harassment of the media, parties, wanting a photograph or an autograph from mom or dad, or even the pressure to stand out and shine more than their parents.

However, not all celebrity children take advantage of the fame of their parents. Many celebrity children feel an enormous amount of pressure to be as successful and famous as their parents, which is comprehensible. Some try, fail or give up and spiral into a dark side by abusing alcohol and getting hooked on drugs, which is worse. Others don't give up and spend their lives trying to reach fame, filling their lives with many frustrations.

Here are ten celebrity children who have been crushed by the fame of their family. Unfortunately, some are no longer with us and even others are homeless or in jail.

Francesca Hilton

Francesca Hilton was, as a friend defined her, “a pre-Kardashian". Francesca Hilton was the daughter of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor and the hotel magnate Conrad Hilton. Francesca died in January at the age of 67 from an apparent heart attack and/or brain hemorrhage. At the moment of her death she was homeless and living in her car and at a motel when she could afford it. Her nephew told Radar that his aunt was a “character” and “Her life was not easy”, because she lived in the shadow of two famous and successful parents. So, why wasn't Francesca Hilton an heiress just like her niece Paris? Even though her father paid her an allowance, when he died in 1979, she did not receive any inheritance. Francesca was born when her parents were already separated. Francesca´s ashes have yet to be buried and are in a cardboard box.

Jaden Smith

Jaden Smith is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. Smith has been successful acting next to his father in the movie “The Pursuit of Happiness” and as the main character of "Karate Kid" in 2010, as well as the next sequel. He recently gave an interview to T Magazine along with his sister Willow questioning the sanity of them both. They spoke about their interest in quantum theory, old texts, the weather, a superior consciousness, the universe and many, many more things.

“It is proven that time moves forward depending on where you are located within the universe. This is relative to being in other places, but here on Earth, if you are conscious at the moment, one second can last a year. If you are distracted, your childhood and your entire life can pass by in six seconds, but it is so complex that you can get lost in this time period”, explained Jaden. Simple, right?

Michael Blosil was the son of artist Marie Osmond and the producer Brian Blosil. He took his life in 2010, when he jumped out of his eight-story apartment in Los Angeles, where he was a fashion student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. He was only 18 years old. Two years prior, he went to rehabilitation for drug addiction and depression. After his rehabilitation it seemed as though he had recuperated and was doing fine. His mother told People magazine in an interview: “These types of things are very difficult to treat in an adolescent. And if he wants to talk about it some day he will…but it is his choice. It's not mine." Unfortunately, his choice cost him his life.

Cameron Douglas

While his father, Michael Douglas, has been one of the most successful actors, following in the footsteps of his father, Kirk Douglas, the same can´t be said for his son Michael Cameron. While his father assists red carpet events and lives in luxurious mansions, Cameron Douglas lives in the “big house” serving his sentence for selling heroine from his hotel room in Manhattan. Michael Douglas has tried everything in order to be sympathetic towards his son saying: “I have an idea of the kind of pressure he feels having a famous father. I am not sure I can understand when it happens in two generations.” Cameron Douglas is expected to get out of jail from the Federal Correctional in Cumberland, Pennsylvania, in March, 2017.

Bobbi Kristina Brown

Bobbi Kristina Brown was the daughter of deceased Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Indeed the marriage of Bobbi Kristina´s parents was not exemplary. The couple was involved in many scandals. Without mentioning her mother's addiction to drugs that ended her life. Bobbie Kristina was found unconscious and face down in the bathtub of her home on January 31st. She later was released from an Atlanta hospital in March and was transferred to an unknown place. According to her grandmother, Cissy Houston, she assures that the brain damage of her granddaughter is irreversible. “Knowing that she will spend the rest of her life like this saddens me”, said the elderly woman.

In her last tweet she wrote: "I miss you Mom… :). I love you more and more with each second.”

Fame Doesn't Always Lead to Broken Lives

There have been many celebrity children who have used their family connections and their names in order to establish their own careers. Examples include Angelina Jolie, who is the daughter of Jon Voight and Ben Stiller, who is the son of famous comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. Others include the actress Mamie Gummer, who is the daughter of Meryl Streep and Zoe Kravitz, who is the daughter of famous Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet. Kravitz was also the son of Roxie Roker, a celebrity of the 70s and 80s, known for the roll of Hellen Willis in "The Jeffersons" and Sy Kravitz, was a American director. These celebrities prove that fame and family name doesn’t always lead to broken lives.
