Celebrities That Put God First

You have your stars that say their obligatory thank you to God when they are the recipient of an award. Then you have the celebrity that constantly speaks up and puts their Lord and Savior first – and by placing their complete faith in God, they’ve discovered an endless amount of possibilities and opportunities that would have never been possible without him. Aside from saying thank you to God in their speeches, these individuals are also attending church and have expressed in interviews the impact that the Lord has made in their life. God has proven to be more to them than just the man upstairs, he has proven to be their center and the ultimate power in charge of their life.

The amazing element about the Christian faith is that we are all putting our faith in the same man – the same brave and courageous soul that sacrificed his life for all of us. He has led all of us down the path that we’re destined to take – and for some that path is down a red carpet to Hollywood. There are a lot of Christians that we are all very familiar with and are on the usual list – Mark and Roma Downey, Tim Tebow, Russell Westbrook, Dwyane Wade, Johnny Cash and Mark Wahlberg. While those celebrities are great influential Christians, there are a number of others that often times get left off of the list. Let’s find out what other celebrities put God first.

Chris Pratt

The past five years have proven to be ground breaking for actor Chris Pratt. Chris is best known for his role on the hit NBC comedy ‘The Office’. Chris made some huge diet changes for a movie role and more leading male roles continued to be offered to the actor. Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, The Magnificent Seven, The Lego Movie, and Passengers are just a few of the hits that Chris has starred in. Chris is married to actress Anna Faris – and the couple first opened up about their faith after undergoing a very scary situation with their son. Chris and Anna’s son Jake was born August 2012 premature, he fell into a coma, and Jake spent the next month in intensive care. Chris talked to The Christian Post about the life changing experience. “It restored y faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really defined it,” the actor said. “The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect.” Anna and Chris have said in many interviews that they know and appreciate God’s love – and are now forever changed.

Matthew Mcconaughey

Matthew Mcconaughey has starred in several Blockbusters; however, his role in Dallas Buyers Club was a game changer. Not only did Matthew award winning actor skills convince us, but his physical transformation for the role was nothing less than astounding – and further convinced us that he was the great actor everyone was crediting him to be. And then Matthew awed us again with his beautiful Oscar acceptance speech. The man upstairs was the first person Matthew acknowledged in his acceptance speech. “First off I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He’s graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand,” he said. “He has shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton, who said when you got God you got a friend and that friend is you.”

Many learned, from Matthew, that faith doesn’t have to necessarily be broadcasted by a celebrity 24/7. Instead of sharing how faith influences his life in every interview that he does, Matthew decided to express his love and devotion for the Lord, when everyone would be the most impacted and influenced by his devotion for the Lord and Savior. It was and is clear that Matthew is a Christian that puts God first and understands that ultimate power that the Lord has placed in his path.

Reba McEntire

Country singer and actor Reba McEntire has always been very outspoken about her Christian faith and how it has placed her on the road to success and prosperity. In fact Reba has went as far as to say that God is her best friend. Reba’s most recent album is entitled “Faith”, which pretty much sums up her love for her Lord and Savior. Growing up in Oklahoma, Reba always knew who God was and would read about him with her grandmother – the two would read Bible stories and it always felt natural for her. Reba told the Christian Post, “We’ve known the Lord forever. There’s not been a time where it was like – “Oh this is our Jesus story,” it’s just always been there for us.”

Recently, after 26 years of marriage Reba announced her separation from husband Narvel Blackstock. Reba has openly shared that she was crushed and has said that the divorce wasn’t her decision. Reba told the Christian Post, “I prayed every day to help me have the strength to move one foot in front of the other, and continue on with what I’m supposed to be doing and then with my team and my friends, my family, my girlfriends.” Reba believes that the fellowship of her faith has helped her to get through everything and has brought her closer to the Lord. In her talks and in the interview, Reba has openly shared that she believes that God is all around us – from the rainbow after a storm to the wind that blows the trees.

Kristin Chenoweth

There is absolutely nothing that the amazing and talented Kristin Chenoweth can’t do. Her career has ranged from Broadway, TV and movies. Kristin received a Tony for her performance in the Broadway hit Wicked and has been loved in just about anything she has performed in – both on TV and the big screen. Kristin is quick to credit her success and talent to the Lord – she’s mentioned that without his guidance and support she wouldn’t be where she is today. During a Women of Faith conference, Kristin spoke out about being a woman of faith. “I’m an actress and a singer and I’m also a Christian. We’re not all crazy right wingers. I just want to be like Jesus, forgiving and loving and nonjudgmental, accepting of everyone even if they don’t agree.”

Kristin’s book “A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages" also discusses her devotion to the Lord and how she strives to live a life that the Lord will be proud of – meaning she wants to make sure that at the end of the day she has no regrets and lived out all of the opportunities that were placed in her path.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is a proud member of the Jewish faith and has openly discussed how she has had to invest time into learning more about her Jewish following because of the modern times. In an interview with The Telegraph Natalie said, “The older I get, the more I realize how different it is to be a Jew in a Jewish place as opposed to a Jew in a non-Jewish place.” She went on to say, “It’s definitely a different feeling in terms of how freely you can be yourself and celebrate your culture and religion. It’s very different being in Israel than in cities that don’t have big Jewish populations, where it can sometimes feel dangerous to be Jewish, and you understand why there is a need for a place where you don’t feel that way I feel it in lots of places. Pretty much everywhere.”

Natalie has also been very open in other interviews about raising her children as Jews and making sure to instill the importance of putting faith first – and above everything. The actress has also utilized her Hollywood platform as a forum to discuss her faith and how placing her God as the priority has ultimately changed her life for the better.
