Faith is a beautiful thing. Not only does it have the power to reinstate hope, but it provides a foundation for those following. Relationships are complicated – moreover, your relationship doesn’t have to be going through a difficult period in order for it to be complicated. The merge of two people means ultimately bringing together emotions, goals, aspirations, baggage, experiences, regrets and just about anything else that has occurred in an individual’s life. There’s no magical resource that provides a ‘how-to’ process on making these things work. With saying that, faith has the ability to set-up the groundwork for a relationship to be successful. Faith remains a constant for couples and provides them with the hope they both need.

While we may know a couple or two in our own lives that exemplify faithful living, there are also a number of celebrity couples that showcase their faith for everyone. Their outspoken nature and willingness to represent their faith give everyday people role models to look up to. We all are aware of household staple couples such as Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, but the list of powerhouse couples built on faith is much longer than we may think. These couples speak about their faith in their works on and off of the red carpet. In interviews, these couples have accredited their faith for their success in the lime light and within their relationship. Being aware of who these high-profile couples are will renew your hope and compassion for your own relationship.

Sam and Kevin Sorbo

Sam and Kevin Sorbo first met while filming in 1997 on the set of ‘Hercules’. In an interview with the Christian Broadcast Network, Sam admits that she immediately was attracted to Kevin. The couple started dating shortly after meeting and got engaged after only a few months. In the interview with CBN, Kevin talks about health issues that he faced early in his relationship with Sam and reflects on his conversation with God. Kevin told CBN, “I was scared. I was scared for my future, my career, my life. Am I going to be able to have kids? I was scared for a lot of different reasons. And we’re four months from saying for better or for worse and she gets worse before she gets to say those lines.” However, despite the setbacks the couple continued to move forward and place their faith in the Lord.

Kevin told CBN, “Faith is not tangible, you can’t touch it. It’s something that’s a belief, something that’s inside of you. And I needed hope and faith to keep pushing myself past every single day of what I was going through and what I felt. My true strength comes from God and certainly from my family right after that. They’re the most important things in my life.” The couple have been married for more than a decade and are going strong. Kevin has starred in God’s Not Dead. Kevin and Sam also collaborated on a highly anticipated faith film “Let There be Light” – a film loosely based on Kevin’s story about finding God.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher

In an interview with Oprah, country superstar Carrie Underwood and her ice hockey powerhouse Mike Fisher talked about the importance of their faith. Prior to getting married, the couple shared with Oprah how they disclosed upfront how important their Christian faith was to each other. In fact when the couple first met, Mike gave Carrie a copy of the book “A Purpose Driven Life.” Mike told Oprah that the first time he read the book it changed his life and gave him a deeper sense of purpose. Not only did they read the same faith centered material, but they also prayed together – when they were traveling together and away from each other. The interview, conducted by Oprah, took place in the couple’s home and the decoration within the household reflects their commitment to Jesus Christ – framed scriptures, crosses hanging, and other faith-filled elements have been incorporated. No matter what interview platform they’re being interviewed on, both celebrities make sure that everyone understands that none of their success would be possible without their Lord and Savior.

Chip and Joanna Gaines

If you’re into DIY and anything HGTV then you’re probably very familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines. The couple have been business owners in Waco, Texas for years, but their show Fixer Upper changed everything and provided a forum for the two to become household names. The couple never thought that they’d become famous and credit their faith as the element that guided throughout their journey. In an interview with Fox News Joanna said, “I had to learn that this whole God thing isn’t just this big religion. It’s really that He wants this relationship with us on a personal level. Even today with the opportunities that are coming our way… I need His guidance. Otherwise I’d say yes to everything.”

In the interview with Fox News Chip also chimed in admitting, “Without God, for me, I’m not the best version of myself.” Joanna and Chip met while she worked at her dad’s automotive shop – Chip was getting his car serviced. After they got married, Joanna decided to shift her career and started working alongside her husband. Nothing was easy, but their strong faith and devotion to God kept them grounded and focused.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married for, what Hollywood considers to be, an eternity. Both actors have starred in Blockbuster hits that will forever remain as our favorite Hollywood films. Despite their success, Tom and Rita have openly expressed how their faith has saved their life. Rita told Jesus Daily that she prays to God every day and she makes sure her children also pray daily. In the interview Tom chimes in by mentioning that God works in mysterious ways and is with us every day. Rita has openly discussed her Greek Orthodox faith and how she continues that lifestyle. A few years ago, Rita was diagnosed with breast cancer and she credits her faith as the key driving force to battle through the diagnosis and never give up – no matter how challenging circumstances were. There’s no doubt that faith is a definite component in their relationship’s foundation and continued devotion for each other.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are another couple that have broken the odds when it comes the longevity of marriage in Hollywood. Kelly and Mark have four children together and have been very open about their faith in God and how it has forever changed their lives. Both stars have expressed in interview that without their faith they wouldn’t have success. In an interview with Good Housekeeping Ripa discussed her upbringing and how she incorporates faith into her children’s daily efforts, “We grew up Catholic. We’ve both found it a stabilizing force, a source of strength and comfort in our lives. While we don’t always say grace at meals, we do say our prayers every night.” Ripa relies on her faith to keep her family close. In the interview with Good Housekeeping, Ripa mentions how she often encounters the surprise from the media that her and Mark are still married. “People assume that when you get married in Vegas, you go in willy-nilly. We wanted to get married and start our lives together, and we didn't take it any less seriously than anybody who has a huge wedding. It's the marriage that's important, not the wedding,” Ripa told Good Housekeeping.
