In a recent interview with Tracy Smith from CBS Sunday Morning, Christian country singer Carrie Underwood opened up about one of the toughest trials she had ever been through. She revealed that she had multiple miscarriages in the last two years.
In the interview, she was asked about some of the meanings behind her new single “Cry Pretty.” She shared that one major hardship was unsuccessfully carrying three babies to terms and still having to put out new music.
Sometimes you put on a happy face, even in sadness she explained.
“We got pregnant early 2017 and it didn’t work out,” Underwood said. “It happens. And that was the thing in the beginning – it was like, ‘Okay, God, we know this just wasn’t your timing, and that is all right. We will bounce back and figure a way through it.’”
“Got pregnant again in the spring, and it didn’t work out. Got pregnant again early 2018 – didn’t work out. So, at this point, it was just kind of like, ‘Okay, what’s the deal? What is all of this?’”
Underwood also suffered a serious injury late 2017 that required her to get about 50 stitches to her face. It had been a really tough year.
Encountering what she worried was going to be her fourth miscarriage in less than two years, Underwood said she curled up next to her 3-year-old son and prayed like she never prayed in the past. She said she had become angry at God.
“I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid?,” Underwood said. “Do something. Either shut the door, or let me have a kid.’ For the first time, I feel like I actually told God how I felt. And I feel like we’re supposed to do that.’”
When she went to the doctor a couple of days later, she learned her pregnancy was just fine. She is now pregnant with her second child with professional hockey player Mike Fisher.
“He heard me,” Underwood said, explaining that God heard her prayers.
To God be the glory!
