Mariano Rivera
Mariano Rivera was a baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees. He played for 19 seasons, from 1995 to 2013, and was named an All-Star in 13 of them. He met his wife Clara in elementary school, and has been married to her since 1991. Rivera converted from Catholicism to a Pentecostal faith at age 21 and had the verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” inscribed on his glove. His faith has also inspired great philanthropic work through the Mariano Rivera Foundation, which gives more than $500,000 a year to underprivileged children in the United States and Panama, his home country.
