Everyone has to Start Somewhere
Long before King Kong, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Peter Jackson wrote and directed the 1989 black comedy flop, Meet the Feebles. The weird story featured a stage troupe who used Muppet-like puppets in their acts in the New Zealand musical. It was co-written by his future wife, Fran Walsh, who has done a better job of writing for his subsequent films. During Jackson's acceptance speech at the 2004 Academy Awards, he mentioned Feebles, and stated that it had been "wisely overlooked by the Academy."
