Top 10 Christian Movies of All Time
By Kris Rasmussen
Whether it has been historical epics, character-driven dramas, or special-effects laden adventures, Hollywood has created far more affecting portraits of faith over the years than the industry is given credit for. In fact, showcasing religious fervor and Christian devotion has often been a good way to generate Oscar buzz for stars and directors in the past. It worked for Jennifer Jones in "Song of Bernadette," Paul Scofield in "A Man for all Seasons" and Gregory Peck in "The Keys of the Kingdom," just to name a few. So not surprisingly, the movies on my list do indeed feature quite a few Oscar winners.
For purposes of this list I limited my selections to movies that had an overtly Christian character or storyline—as opposed to those simply created by Christians or showcasing Christian ideals in some way.
In limiting the criteria, I had to leave such epics as "Lord of the Rings" off the list, but that also doesn't mean I included such Godsploitation box office smashes as "Fireproof," either. The movie in the number one slot is not the obvious choice you might be thinking of, so take time to click through our gallery and see what other surprises you might find on the list!
