Movies are a big part of life. Whether it’s a documentary, fiction, or horror, a movie can change your life. It may not seem like it, but everyone has a favorite movie. Even if it was something you watched as a child and you subconsciously still know the lines, that counts. For most people, your favorite movie tends to be your comfort movie. Something you can put on when you need something familiar and you know you’ll like. Here are some comforting movies that you can add to your list of comfort movies or ones you already love.
"Clueless"
To this day, people are still creating Cher’s legendary looks from this 90s movie, and can you blame them? If you didn’t want Cher’s closet the first time you saw this movie, are you being honest with yourself? “Clueless” follows Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone, the it-girl of her high school and how she tries to win the affection of a new kid and transform a classmate who doesn’t want to be changed. “Clueless” is a comfort movie because of how fun it is. The plot changes course and takes some unbelievable routes, but that’s what makes it so great.
"Mamma Mia!"
If you don’t love ABBA or bob your head to Dancing Queen, are you okay? However, if you like second-chance romances, destination weddings, and three potential fathers, “Mamma Mia!” is the perfect choice for a movie night. There’s a lot of warmth and love packed into this film through multiple character pairings. The mother-daughter relationship in the movie is very pure and will have you reaching for the phone to call your parents. “Mamma Mia!” is a great ride to take when you need a pick-me-up and want to sing some of ABBA’s greatest hits.
"The Parent Trap"
“The Parent Trap” is the quintessential example of what not to do when deciding on a co-parenting agreement, with Nick, played by Dennis Quaid, and Elizabeth, played by the late Natasha Richardson, deciding to separate their twins and never tell them about each other. However, the sisters happen to attend the same summer camp. Initially, they’re rivals but don’t make the connection that they could be related, even though they look exactly alike. They quickly bond and create a plan to switch places for the year, and everything goes according to plan until Nick announces he’s getting married to another woman. It’s the perfect movie if you want to curl up and watch by yourself or with others.
"Bridesmaids"
If you need a movie that will guarantee several belly laugh moments and tears from how hard you’re laughing, “Bridesmaids” is the perfect movie for you. If you’ve ever had that feeling of a good friend getting close to someone who isn’t you, that friendship jealously, you’ll find yourself being represented on screen while watching this movie. With a great ensemble cast that consists of Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, and more, “Bridesmaids” is all about unsavory hookups, friendships, and discovering that as adults, you don’t have to be someone’s first pick to still be considered important to them.
"Stuck in Love"
“Stuck in Love” is an excellent movie if you need a good cry, and yes, crying is good for you. This film follows a family of writers and the very intense year they share, from falling in love with someone you don’t expect, book publications, and two exes falling back in love after it seemed impossible. For this film, the phrase “a family affair” hits the nail on the head as they all experience big things with each other, like rescuing a young girl who was drugged.
