During these times, genuine bonds are made while secrets are shared and heart-to-hearts transpire. Watching some of your favorite movies and reminiscing about the good old days is an essential experience for many women. Many of these movies are considerable classics, but some may be new to your girl group. Take this chance to experience new characters in a fun setting for the first time together. Here are some movies for your next girls' night in.
"Grease"
John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton-John singing, dancing and cutting up in “Grease” are definite ways to get anyone out of their seats and onto the floor for a dance party. Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John, goes from a meek and humble schoolgirl to a leather-wearing woman who grabs everyone’s attention at the end-of-the-year school carnival. Meanwhile, Danny Zuko, played by John Travolta, goes from being a greaser to a guy willing to express his feelings for the new girl at school.
"Pretty Woman"
Romantic comedies are a must when it comes to a girl’s night in, but as fans know, all rom-coms aren’t the same.” Julia Roberts stars in “Pretty Woman” as a no-nonsense sex worker who has to pose as a proper lady when Edward, played by Richard Gere, offers her money for the week to masquerade as his girlfriend. Anyone can tell that they’ll be together in the end, but watching Roberts’ character glow once she takes off her blonde wig and skimpy outfit is one for the books.
"The Proposal"
Sandra Bullock is a fan favorite for a reason. Watching her chemistry with Ryan Reynolds in the quirky movie, “The Proposal,” is iconic. Bullock plays the ruthless and stubborn editor, Margaret, while Reynolds is her cynical assistant, Andrew. The two fake an engagement so Margaret, who is originally from Canada, can stay in the States. In return, she’ll publish Andrew’s book. When they visit Andrew’s family in Alaska, Margaret learns that Andrew is incredibly caring and kind, while he realizes that Margaret is capable of being sweet. The ending might be predictable, but it’s still a loveable classic.
"Breakfast at Tiffany's"
Audrey Hepburn plays socialite Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” whose primary mission in life is to marry rich so that a man can support all of her wishes and wants. Golightly befriends her new neighbor, Paul, and their friendship seems platonic given everything Holly wants, but anyone can see that she should humble herself and get with a good guy who’s interested in getting to know the real Holly. From the acting to the soundtrack, this movie is sure to make you and your girlfriends feel nostalgic.
"Mean Girls" (2004)
“Mean Girls” is one of the most quotable movies ever, and there’s a “fetch” reason for that. Lindsay Lohan stars as Cady, the new girl in school, and while she fits in with the misfits, she finds herself evolving into a version of her new friend’s most hated enemy. The cool girls of the school seem to run the show. Everyone talks about them, but very few actually like them. Cady navigates this group, and she finds herself biting off more than she can chew in numerous ways.
"The Devil Wears Prada"
Aside from the fantastic casting of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, “The Devil Wears Prada” also put Emily Blunt on the map in Hollywood. Hathaway plays Andy, an aspiring journalist who lands an assistant job at the biggest magazine in the business. Streep, who plays Miranda Priestly, is the cutthroat editor-in-chief who sends her two assistants, Emily, played by Emily Blunt and Andy, through the wringer. From judgmental looks to near-impossible tasks, Andy has to quickly learn to play the fashionista game or risk losing a career in her beloved field.
"Miss Congeniality"
In “Miss Congeniality,” Sandra Bullock goes from the rugged and tough-as-nails FBI agent Gracie Hart to the pampered-looking but still deadly pageant girl Gracie Lou Freebush. Gracie is chosen to go undercover to catch a domestic terrorist at the Miss United States beauty pageant. After one very patient pageant coach and a team of stylists get ahold of her, she’s ready for the runway. Gracie keeps her eyes out for suspects while under the guise of Miss New Jersey, but she also learns that it’s nice to have trustworthy and honest girlfriends in her corner.
"Thelma & Louise"
Two best friends on a weekend getaway isn’t new, but in “Thelma & Louise,” when secrets are shared, and shots are fired, their story becomes more interesting. After a man tries to sexually assault Thelma in a bar parking lot, Louise comes to the rescue and shoots him. Then, the two go on the run from the police as they didn’t report the incident. They have flings, get their money stolen, and put some insulting men in their place. In the end, no one can blame this duo for their decision to ride off together rather than face unjustified jail time.
