Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
“Unchained Melody,” in my opinion, is the most beautiful
song on this list. It’s got a soulful
melody, strong dynamics, and heartfelt lyrics make it one of the most memorable
love songs that I have ever heard. Truly
a classic.
Bob Dylan - Make You Feel My Love
“Make You Feel My Love” was a Bob Dylan original, but the
intimate piano version captured the best of Garth Brooks – emotional,
reflective, and simple. The lyrics
capture the yearning of someone who would do anything for the person they love.
Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
Bryan Adams has a way of making it onto these lists, whether
it be for love songs or rock songs about heaven. This ballad was a famous part of the Robin
Hood film from the ‘90s, and maybe the only part that people still
remember. It is a fantastic song, full of
all of the great twists and turns needed for a tight rock ballad. The theme of being willing to do anything for
someone is a great match to the powerful music.
Meat Loaf - I Would Do Anything for Love
Meat Loaf may not seem like a source for knowledge about
love, but he can certainly perform a great ballad. This song is all about knowing that you would
do anything for someone, except hurt them.
It may take him eight minutes to reveal what “that” is, but it, like
love, is worth waiting on.
Diana Ross and Lionel Richie - Endless Love
Romantic duets are common, but they are rarely as moving as
this one. Hearing Diana and Lionel, two
of the greatest voices of all time, sing these romantic words to each other is
almost too much to take. I am in endless
love with this song.
Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On
This
ballad may have been the feature track of a smash hit film, but the song more
than stood up on its own. Belting her
heart out, Celine Dion reminds us that love is something indeed goes on and on…
and on.
Led Zeppelin - Thank You
Led Zeppelin is known more for rocking than for loving, but
they have a softer side too. “Thank You”
is a beautiful song that captures the sweetness of walking with the one you
love. It is also a great first dance
song for a wedding.
Dolly Parton - I Will Always Love You
Dolly Parton originally performed this evocative tune of
lost love, and Whitney Houston took the song into powerful territory. Both versions communicate the central themes
of love and loss, but in very different ways.
Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle - A Whole New World
This song was mysteriously absent from Beliefnet’s list of inspiring Disney songs, but this list is here to right that wrong. The feature ballad from Alladin is about more
than riding on a magic carpet, it is about sharing love with a person who is very
important to you.
The Pretenders - I'll Stand By You
The Pretenders wrote and performed this haunting song about
the never-ending devotion of a person in love.
It encourages the listener to be themselves, knowing that someone will
always be there for them. It has been
covered on nearly every American Idol season but no version will ever be as
effective as the original.
Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful
This Beach Boys original was made popular by Joe Crocker’s
crooning voice. It’s a simple song, but
it is a lovely and effective song.
Perfect for slow dancing, and even meaningful outside of sweet romance.
Rod Stewart - Have I Told You Lately That I Love You
Rod Stewart’s cover of the Scott Wiseman 1945 original is
all about reminding the one you love – and yourself – about the romance between
you. We all sometimes get too busy in
life, this song is all about keeping that love alive no matter how busy you are.
