Most TV shows are created entirely full of fictional characters, but they inspire something real with the viewers. People become obsessed with their favorite television shows and feel they are connected to them. Fan theories arise from this intense passion. Sometimes, fans go a little deeper into shows and put on their tinfoil-hats to come up with crazy conspiracies.

Many fan theories are complete and total conjecture, giving people a way to expand upon their favorite characters and plotlines without any real evidence or proof. However we do know that TV writers have been known to take a "more than meets the eye" approach to storytelling. So really, it's not all that far-fetched that some of these fan theories could have a hint of truth to them.

All the “Spongebob” characters are mutants.

One of the most popular kid’s shows on television might have a darker side. Many believe that Spongebob and all his friends are the product radiation from atomic testing that happened during the '40s and '50s on the Bikini Atoll. They live underneath the area, explaining the name "Bikini Bottom.” This also explains why the characters are all so strange, and why the landscape isn’t what you would normally expect from a sea floor. In addition, images of what the explosions looked like underwater at Bikini Atoll look identical to explosions that are used on the show. They both have a particular mushroom cloud shape.

“The Flintstones” takes place in a post-apocalyptic future.

Hanna Barbera

This is another theory that many have picked up on. This fan theory believes that the worlds inhabited by the Jetsons and the Flintstones exist concurrently. The Flintstones' civilization was bombed back to the Stone Age during a nuclear war, and its inhabitants were forced to start over. That's why the Flintstones use the materials at their disposal to mimic modern technology (like when they use birds' beaks to play records). The Jetsons, for their part, live in Orbit City, a metropolis built entirely above the clouds. Many people believe that the civilization depicted on “The Flintstones” is happening down on Earth underneath Orbit City. Both of these shows were developed at the height of the Cold War, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say this theory is real.

Bayside High is Zack Morris’ dream world.

Before there was “Saved By The Bell,” it was a Disney Channel teen sitcom called “Good Morning Miss Bliss.” After a 14-episode run, “Good Morning, Miss Bliss” was re-made for NBC. Some of the characters stayed on, while others were cast aside for new faces. The setting of the school changed as well from John F. Kennedy Junior High School in Indiana to Bayside High School in California. As a result, it is believed that Saved By The Bell is nothing more than an escapist fantasy of its main character, Zack Morris. In “Saved By The Bell,” Zack’s character has completely changed to the coolest guy in school, when he originally was a complete dweeb. Because of this, some fans think that Zack manufactured his dream life in sunny southern California, creating a world in which all the girls want him, his peers idolize him, and he gets away with even his most ridiculous plans.
