All that is needed is a car, a cooler, good tunes, comfy clothes, and a free spirit. We can find this refreshment by getting away locally. There are so many sites around us that we are missing out on, and that we never discover. Local parks with cabins, towns and cities are great places to catch a break for a needed change. Whether it is a getaway in-state or a drive over the border, here are great tips for a quick getaway where you can press reset.

Charleston, South Carolina,

U.S. News ranked Charleston, S.C. as the top place for a weekend getaway. The reasons are solid with the city having really neat bed-and-breakfasts. Its city is lined with cobblestone streets and gas lamps, giving the ambiance of an European town. Stand where the first shot of the Civil War was, tour beautiful gardens, and hop a boat to enjoy the harbor. If you want to do a tour there is the Charleston Stroll that will take you through historical homes, neighborhoods, churches, and old cemeteries. See historical landmarks like Middleton Place, Old Exchange Building and the French Quarter. If you want to get out of the city visit Bull Island to see wildlife.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Book a hotel in historic Philadelphia for a romantic getaway. During winter snuggle and ice skate on Penn’s Landing. The River Rink Winterfest is gorgeous at night with a loved one--it has lots of food, warm beverages, blankets and fire pits to keep you warm afterwards.
