A Prayer for September 11 Lord, Source of Life, Creator of all flesh, From out of the depths we call unto you. Protect us from the hand of all our enemies. Comfort Your children who now stand alone without parent or brother or sister or child. Strengthen us to stand with those orphaned by this attack on our country. This country, our country, shelter of peace to the downtrodden, which has gathered in millions of the peoples of the world stands as a beacon of light and justice, but today is dimmed with horror and tragedy. New York and Washington, shining cities, Diminished like Jerusalem after the destruction of the holy Temple, need Your comfort, and our aid; help us to maintain our courage and our efforts to support our people. Strengthen the hands of those who defend this country, and those who try to maintain peace against these attacks. Teach us to speak to our children with love and support and courage and understanding, for we are all fearful, although their fears may not be our fears. Gain for us a heart of wisdom, that we may act out of compassion and thoughtfulness, and not out of anger or prejudice. Accept with mercy our prayers for our country and its government for its president, judges, officials and institutions who faithfully toil for the good of our country. May they, with Your guidance, lead us back to lives of peace in a land we have come to love. --Jeffrey A. Spitzer, producer of www.JSkyway.com. Originally published on JewzNewz, www.jewznewz.com. |

Prayer in a Time of Pain In the midst of our preparation for the days of awe when tradition tells us that the fate of human beings and nations are weighed in the balance, we feel the added burden of the violence, suffering, and death that have been unleashed upon so many hundreds of people. We pray that this time of rage and destruction pass quickly for all of us. We ask God that healing and comfort come to those who have been injured and who grieve. We pray above all for wisdom for the leaders of our country. Give them strength at this time of sorrow to help bind our nation's wounds and begin the work of reweaving our country's rent fabric. And we ask You, Holy One to spread over us, our people, and our nation, Your sheltering presence. **** When Our Burdens Seem Too Heavy When our burdens seem too heavy, we come to You, O God, for Your gracious help. You dwell within our hearts, You feel our distress, You know our pain, and how burdened we are. Give us strength to bear our burdens with courage, wisdom, and grace. Help us to be true to our better selves, to discern our real work in life, and to do it with all our might. When we struggle within our own hearts, stay by our side. Then shall we be able to say with the Prophet Isaiah "Those who hold fast to the Eternal shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." May the ties that bind us to family and friends make life rich in meaning for us, and may we live each day supported by You. Amen. We Remember Them We Remember Them At the rising of the sun and at its going down We remember them. At the blowing of the wind and the chill of winter We remember them At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring We remember them. At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer We remember them. At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn We remember them. At the beginning of the year and when it ends We remember them. As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as we remember them. When we are weary and in need of strength We remember them. When we are lost and sick at heart We remember them. When we have joy we crave to share We remember them. When we have decisions that are difficult to make We remember them. When we have achievements that are based on theirs We remember them. As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as we remember them. --Provided by Project Zachor |
