5 Atheists That Found God in Miraculous Ways

You may have grown up in a very religious household where you went to church every Sunday and prayed with your parents every night. Christianity wasn't a question for you, because it was something that you always had exposure to. While this is the case for many Christians throughout the world, there are many that come to Christ in other ways.

Some of the most prominent Christian figures in today's society didn't always start out that way. Many were atheists or agnostics for one reason or another, before God met them in a new light. God was able to use tools on this earth to reach their hearts and bring them to His church. From there they had their lives transformed, and can now share the love of Christ in their respective fields.

From political writers to singers, here are five compelling and shocking testimonies of important American's today that found God in incredible ways.

Lacey Sturm

Lacey Sturm is a singer from Florida. She was co-founder and lead vocalist of the hard rock band Flyleaf, and in 2016 became the first solo female to top the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart with her debut release. Prior to her time with the band, Sturm was an atheist. She felt as if her life had no real purpose or meaning and contemplated suicide. Sturm's grandmother noticed Lacey was dwindling, and insisted that she attend church. During the service, a man prayed with Sturm and asked that God would remove her pain. Sturm felt incredibly moved by the experience and said she felt God's love, acceptance and forgiveness where she previously only felt judgment. From there Sturm abandoned her plans to commit suicide and dedicate her time to the church. Since then, she's worked with many artists including Third Day which won her a pair of Grammy Nominations for 'Best Gospel Performance'.

Dame Cicely Saunders

Dame Cicely Mary Saunders is a doctor who is best known for her role in the development of the hospice movement, which emphasizes the importance of palliative care in modern medicine. Saunders didn't grow up in a religious home. She was originally an agnostic but while on holiday in Cornwall with some Christian friends, she discovered she really believed in God. It was, she said, "as if a switch had flipped." The faith she had really shaped the rest of her career. It was then that she began researching new approaches and techniques for treatment of the terminally ill. Saunders believed that no human life, no matter how terrible their situation may seem, should be denied dignity and love just as Jesus never denies us with His love.

Maggie Gallagher

Maggie Gallagher is a writer, socially conservative commentator, and activist. She wrote several books, a syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate, and a co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage. Though many who identify as conservative are also Christian, Gallagher wasn't always interested in religion. Growing up, Gallagher's parents were active in their local Catholic parish however her mother left the church when Maggie was eight. Gallagher felt disconnected from the church and left for Yale. While studying at university, Gallagher became pregnant out of wedlock. She initially wanted to put the baby up for adoption, but ultimately decided against it. Her son's father eventually abandoned the new family. It was then that Gallagher decided to revert back to Catholicism, because her experiences as a single mother changed how she viewed God.

Kirk Cameron

Kirk Cameron is best known for his role as teen Mike Seaver in the US television sitcom "Growing Pains", where he won countless awards. Cameron is now an outspoken Christian in Hollywood, though he didn't always use to be. Cameron grew up in a non-religious home, where he didn't attend church. He became very interested in science and was taught that the two could never intersect. It wasn't until high school when a friend took Cameron to church that he began to open his mind. The pastor implored him to explore Christianity. Soon after this encounter, Cameron dedicated his life to Christ. Being a former atheist, Cameron uses his unique experience to meet current atheists where they are and help explain to them how faith and science can be cohesive.

Kirsten Powers

Kristen Powers is a journalist and political analyst. She has worked with companies such as Fox News, CNN, and USA Today. Powers grew up in the Episcopal Church in Alaska, but didn't connect strongly to the faith. Once in college she wavered between atheism and agnosticism. When she began her career working in Democratic politics, she found herself being in a even more secular world. However she started dating a man that pushed her to be more open minded, and asked if she would consider learning more about Jesus. Then one night on a trip to Taiwan, Jesus came to her in a dream. Powers eventually gave herself to the Christian church, and now leads a life where she is proud to say she loves Christ.
