Heaven is a subject of wild speculation. Christians across the world draw up what they think heaven will be like, and what it will be like to live there. Heaven is a real place where the people of God will be after they die, so it's not a shock that Christians want to learn as much as they can about what it will be like. Will there be homes? What will it look like? Will we still have sin? All these questions and more are answered straight from God’s Word, the Bible. Jesus Himself spoke about the amazing things we will get to experience in His eternal kingdom.

What the Bible teaches about it is far different from what many might believe. Here pieces of scripture that speak about heaven, and how it will be different from our lives here on earth.

Philippians 3:20-21

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

Revelation 21:9-12

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!' And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, 'Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.'”

Luke 15:7

“There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”

Matthew 7: 21-23

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heave. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and do many might works in Your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”

John 14:3

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.”

Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying or pain.”

Revelation 22:1-5

"Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever."

Isaiah 65:21

"Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; the one who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere child; the one who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands."

Luke 23:43

"And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Hebrews 11:16

"But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city."

1 Corinthians 2:9

"But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”

Hebrews 13:14

"For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come."

Revelation 21:18-19

"The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald."

Matthew 25:46

"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Isaiah 35:5

"And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf."

Philippians 3:21

"He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control."

Psalm 33:6

"By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host."

Revelation 7:9

"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands."

Luke 12:33

"Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys."

The tiny chubby cherub angels playing their harps in heaven that we see on Christian memorabilia are not what heaven will be like. The things we can expect from heaven are going to be much greater. God has a home for us that will be more transfixing than we could ever imagine. One day when you pass away, you can do so knowing that you will be entering a kingdom created for you by our powerful Father.
