5 Ways Christians Can Love Non-Believers

As Christians, we know that God wants us to surround ourselves with other Christians. He wants us to find a home in our church with other believers that will lift us up. Because of this, some Christians believe that we cannot love those who don’t believe in Christ. They think that God wants us to reject them. However, while God doesn’t want us constantly around these people, He does want us to show them respect, kindness, and love. They are still God’s children too, and deserve a chance to find Christ.

For some people, your testimony and faith might be the only time they see Christianity. You might be the only Bible that they read. It’s important to be living a life for Jesus in these moments. Only you can show them what a loving Christian is like, and what the faith is really about. Loving your non-believer friends is so vitally important.

Here are different ways that you can show love to non-believers.

Share Your Testimony

When it’s appropriate, share your personal faith testimony with them. You do not have to be preachy or formal during the conversation. Simply be yourself, and share with your non-believing friends how you decided to come to Christ. Sometimes a simple testimony is all it takes to soften the hearts of non-believers and bring them to Christ. By being an activate follower of Christ, non-believers will be able to see real examples of God’s love from you. The timing and setting of the conversation should also be taken into consideration. Choose to do it in a moment that is appropriate for the non-believer. Give them opportunities to ask questions and engage in dialog.

Show Them Forgiveness

You have received a great blessing from God. He chose to send His one and only Son down to earth so that you have an avenue to have all your sins forgiven. Since God has forgiven you, it’s only right that you share that forgiveness with others. With God’s help, you can forgive even your most evil of enemies. God will heal your heart in the process. Even if the people who’ve wronged you don’t apologize and repent, choose to forgive them anyway, knowing that by doing so you’ll be giving God the gift of your obedience and freeing yourself from the pain. Non-believers don’t know God’s morals, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve your love and forgiveness.

Respect Their Boundaries

God wants us to love and embrace others wherever they are in life. As Christians, we should be willing to accept people as they are, rather than what you wish they would be. God never plays favorites, and expects you to do the same. You should love others no matter their circumstance or their choice in religion. Ask God to help you respect the boundaries of people who may be different than you. Ask Him to help you understand where they are and that it’s OK. When you choose to share your faith with others, understand that they might not always be very accepting. Know when it’s time to walk away, and when you need to show them a little extra love.
