7 Crucial Weapons to Fight Discouragement

The enemy is powerful, but God will always win in a battle against him.

The enemy comes in your life when you least expect it, and will bring you down in ways you didn’t think was possible. He will do everything he can to break you and leave you feeling discouraged, worthless and inadequate. However, this is not how God wants for us.

God built us and has a beautiful plan in place for us. No matter what obstacle comes our way, God is looking out for our best interests and will help us overcome it. We may feel discouraged but God gives us weapons to fight against our negative thoughts and feelings.

We cannot leave ourselves open to the enemy. We can use the tools and weapons that God gave us to create a force field around ourselves that Satan will never be able to penetrate. The enemy will try to have us turn against ourselves and cause us to be self-defeating, but we can easily fight him through standing firm in our faith. We only have to be completely filled with God’s truth.

Change Negative Thoughts

While it’s easier said than done, getting rid of negative emotions is a great start to fighting off discouragement. Negative thoughts tend to linger in the back of our minds and make us feel that we are worthless, unable, and insignificant. God does not want us to ever feel that we aren’t good enough or that we can’t accomplish any task we put our mind to. The enemy puts these negative thoughts into our brain and wants us to drown in our self-pity. Thoughts have to be filtered out or else they leave us vulnerable to the enemy. We have to be willing to take each thought we have and reject the ones that do not fit into the Word of God. If God wouldn’t agree with it, then it’s to be gone! Write in a journal about the negative thoughts you are having so that you can identify those that are plaguing you.

Brush Off Mistakes

We all make mistakes – a lot of them! God has never wanted us to be perfect and never has expected us to. As humans, we are going to mess up. It’s how we handle our mistakes that define us. If we choose to wallow in pity, feeling terrible about the mistakes we made, then discouragement and frustration are going to fill our heart. This will leave us feeling useless and leave the option for the enemy to break us down. Instead, learn from your mistakes and move forward. Objectively take a look at your mistake and create a plan on how to forgive yourself and apologize to those you may have hurt. Then, come up with a plan of how you can do better in the future. God will be standing next to you the whole way if you ask for His forgiveness.
