While everyone has a different faith journey, we almost all can agree that no journey is easy. With the ups and downs that life throws at us, what convictions we might feel strong in one day might get twisted the next. The path is a winding road, but with dedication and perseverance you can always come out on top with Jesus.
If you are in a space where your faith in Christianity is not as strong as you would like, don’t fear. This is something many Christians deal with, and the first step is simply admitting that you want something deeper. That right there shows God that you are serious and ready for the next step in your faith expedition.
If you execute these seven easy ideas, you will begin your voyage to a stronger faith. Trust in the process and know that God is always by your side ready to work with you. He wants to have a better, more intimate relationship with you and share with you the wonders of the Bible.
Read the Bible
Some people think the Bible isn’t relevant today, however that could be further from the truth. The Bible is the best way to bridge the gap between humans and God. It is His divine Word. His truths are as sound and relevant today as they were when they were first spoken and written.
The Bible tells us that faith comes from hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). In order to grow spiritually and better understand your Christian faith, it is important to dedicate consistent blocks of time to reading and meditating on the Scriptures. Through the power of the Bible, we learn more about the Lord so that He can breathe life into us, give us strength, and empower us to be who He wants us to be.
Complete Mission Work
Following God’s call to become a Christian missionary is a great way to serve the Lord and get to know Him on a deeper level. Each mission field, mission agency and mission work will have its own special requirements, so you might have to do some research to find which mission would fit you best. You might only have a limited amount of time, and find that volunteering in your church's local soup kitchen as a great way to serve God. If you are someone with a lot of time, you might feel compelled to go oversees to help those less fortunate. In either scenario, you will find that serving God will make your Christian faith stronger than ever.
In addition, you don’t have to be a specific age to start completing mission trips either. There are programs that let high school and college children go on mission trips during spring and summer break for example. It is never too early to start volunteering and helping Lord’s children across the world.
Spend Time in Prayer
Pray like you mean it. Pray like God is sitting right next to you, and you both are just having a conversation. Mark 11:23 instructs us to pray without doubt in our hearts, and believe that what we say will happen. In the same verse Jesus says that if we do this, it will be done for us.
The more time we spend in prayer, the more comfortable we become with sharing our burdens with the Lord. The Lord wants us to trust Him and feel like we can come to Him with any problems. He wants to hear our voices, and He wants a personal relationship with each and every one of us. Daily prayer will invite God into our lives and help us establish a deeper trust.
Furthermore, God wants us to pray not only for ourselves but for others. When we lift others up to Him, we show our humility and trust that God can intervene in the lives of others.
Get Involved in Your Church
Most people do not get involved in their church simply because they don't know how. First, just going to church every Sunday is a great start. You will get to know religious leaders and here God's Word in an uplifting environment. While we should all be involved in more ways than one, we often undervalue the simply act of showing up and joining in worship.
When you feel comfortable, you can start seeking out the specific needs of your church. Each church might need something different - maybe yours has a lack of Sunday School teachers and you enjoy working with kids, or your church needs greeters and you enjoy talking with all types of people. You can identify your specific skill set and spiritual gifts and use those to give back. Your church elders can help you find areas to put them to use.
Share Your Testimony With Others
No matter how simple or complicated, your testimony is meant to be told and can help introduce people to Jesus (John 4:29,39). He invites you to be part of other people’s spiritual journeys to faith (2 Corinthians 5:20). God works in mysterious ways, and He can use you and your story to help connect someone to the Christian faith. By helping others find Christ in their lives, you become more connected with Him as well. You also start to notice more often where you can see God working.
You don't have to force your testimony on anyone. You can create a short and powerful testimony that’s less than two minutes, and doesn't "attack" non-Christians. Instead, it can be spoken in a way that invites non-Christians to see God, without pressure or judgment.
Try to Live Like Christ
We may call ourselves Christians, but are we living the Christian lifestyle? No matter how much you learn about the faith, the Bible, and the way Jesus lived if you don't choose to implement those morals and values into your own life then you won't ever get to connect with God like you want to. God gives us orders to try and obey His plan for us, and part of that means trying to live as if Christ had.
Romans 8:29 says "For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son..." God was able to restore us through Christ, and wants us to be like Him. It is one of our main purposes here on this earth. God doesn't expect us to be perfect, however there are easy ways for us to act more Christ-like. This can include showing empathy for those who are different than you, working hard to avoid all temptation of sin, and offering help to those who are not as fortunate.
Surround Yourself With Other Christians
Your relationship with Christianity can be strengthened further when you surround yourself with Godly people. People without faith get influenced by others that choose not to live the Christian lifestyle - society, friends, family and the like. The same thing happens when you surround yourself with the people who do love Christ. They help influence you to follow Him more.
We have to choose our friends carefully in life, because those that do not follow Him are not going to advance us spiritually. The Bible tells us that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. This does not mean we shouldn't lift up those that need Jesus the most, however if you want to fill yourself spirituality you should connect with other church members, a Bible study, or even your pastor. God can work through them to connect with you.
