6 Ways to Know You're Secure In Your Faith

While most Christians can agree that having a solid relationship with God is extremely important, being secure in your faith and trusting God at all times isn’t always easy. There are many factors that cause Christians to lose their faith. It could be the sudden loss of a child or loved one, an abusive marriage that left you broken and penniless, or going to prison for a crime you didn’t commit. Any tragic event can cause Christians to lose sight of God. When you experience hardship, crisis or pain, it’s easy to wonder where God is and question what you believe.

Through times of challenge, it’s important that you seek God’s counsel and trust that no matter what, God’s love is present and His Grace is real. Want to know how secure you are in your faith? Here are six indicators that you’re secure in your faith and on the right track with God.

You Know That Salvation Is Of God

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

When you begin to focus on your sins, doubt can translate into unworthiness and cause you to lose assurance of your Salvation, the deliverance from sin and its consequences. Many Christians believe that through certain actions, Salvation can be lost. However, when your faith is secure, you know that Salvation is of God and you know that even when you fall victim to sin (which we all do), God doesn’t love us any less. Salvation is ours through the power of God and our faith.

You Demonstrate Child-Like Faith

“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Luke 18:17

When you’re secure in your faith, you receive the kingdom of God with openness, honesty and joy, similar to the way a child would receive a special gift. These same people don’t spin God’s Word to bring themselves or others down, they are open and present to God’s love and see the beautiful examples of God’s love all around them. In Matthew 8, Jesus says we must “become as little children” in order to enter the kingdom of God. But having child-like faith isn’t always easy, especially when it requires us to let go and be completely led by God. But when you trust in your faith, you are open to receiving God’s gift of Christ and all the other promises that come with God’s most precious gift: Jesus.

You Trust God, Even During Hard Times

“Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

This is one of the toughest ones for Christians to do. When we are going through a difficult period in our life, we can get so in our heads that it’s hard to see that God is even there. We have trouble understanding why we're going through that difficult period and may find ourselves angry or bitter with God, questioning His wisdom and goodness. But when you’re secure in your faith, you know that God does understand what you’re going through and He has a special plan for your life, even when you don’t understand quite what that plan is. The enemy will quickly throw doubts and questions into our minds. It’s our job as Christians to push back at those lies and discover the wisdom to be learned from that experience.

You Don’t Let The Negative Opinions of Others Sway You

“Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.” 2 John 1:9-11

We live in a culture of know-it-alls. If something or someone can’t be physically seen, then it can’t be real. Non-believers will try to get you to prove to them why God is real and if they don’t like the answers you’re giving them, do everything in their power to sway you to believe otherwise. A person secure in their faith is not moved by the differing or negative opinions of others. No statement, or philosophy can rattle their faith or take them away from the love of God.

You Never Lose Focus of The Cross

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2

When you’re secure in your faith, you’re heart is always set on the cross. That means that our hearts are focused on the promises that are from above, not of this earth. When you fall off course with God, it’s easy to get wrapped up in earthly desires and earthly things. This can be a need the newest and latest things, chasing after love, money, power and wealth, and bringing others down while we’re trying to get up. We’re not perfect. We’ve all fallen short. But when we’re secure in our faith, we know that those things don’t bring us the security that can be found when we’re secure with God because they are not of Him.
