Christ, the Savior For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. –John 3:16. This might be the most well-known Bible verse of all time, but its importance is often overlooked. God loves you. He loves you so much that He gave His Son in exchange for you. You were gripped by sin’s curse, but God sent Jesus to die in your place, to pay your debt. He saved you from certain death and granted you eternal life with Him. The Christmas season celebrates the entrance of Jesus into God’s big story of the world. Because of God’s first Christmas gift in the Christ Child, we can look forward to eternal life with Him. This Christmas, thank God not only for His gift of a babe in the manger, but the Man on the cross

Wisdom If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. –James 1:5 During the Christmas season, our lives seem to get especially hectic. There are gifts to buy, practices for Christmas programs, holiday parties at the kids’ school, and, oh, your husband forgot to tell you about his office Christmas party tonight. There are days we just throw our hands up and say, “What am I supposed to do?” In those moments, it’s important to cling to God’s gift of wisdom. He never told us we need to have all the answers ourselves. When we’re faced with tough choices, God offers us wisdom and discernment to make decisions that will have an eternal impact. All we have to do is ask.

Grace For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9 The world often puts pressure on us to be perfect in every way. We need to maintain our careers, keep our kids fed and houses clean, be at every activity, and look good while doing it. It is so freeing to realize that we don’t have to “measure up” for God. He takes us just the way we are. There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation. We just have to accept His free gift of grace.

Food and Clothing Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? – Matthew 6:25 While many are fretting about the perfect gift to give our loved ones, there are some in the world who have much deeper concerns. Life’s curveballs such as job loss and illness can put a financial strain on families that hits close to home at the Christmas season. If you are one of those families, focus on God’s promises in Matthew 6. God will provide for you. He takes care of his creation – from the sparrows and the flowers of the field to you. Nothing is impossible for God and He will give you everything you need.

My husband and I have spent many a Christmas Eve night assembling gifts for our children. Things always go much more smoothly when we take time to look at our directions! In our Christian walk, God has provided an instructional manual through His Holy Word. We don’t have to put together our life from scratch. God has given us directions to be successful. The answers are all there for us, we just have to take the time to read it
