Godly compassion
On October 2, 2006, Marie Monville’s world was shattered when her husband barricaded himself in an Amish schoolhouse. Charlie Roberts took 10 girls hostage, shot them, killing 5, before killing himself. In an act that stunned the world and deeply impacted Marie, the Amish community came hours later, offering forgiveness for Charlie and compassion over her family. In her book, One Light Still Shines: My Life Beyond the Shadow of the Amish Schoolhouse Shooting, Marie recounts this story and shares that the immediate response from the Amish community released her into the healing journey God had prepared for her heart.
