Prayers for Growing in Virtue

Loyalty

“Father, my goal in this life is to learn about you, your kingdom in heaven and on earth, and how I can serve you with joy and happiness, with diligence and perseverance. You sent us your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, and I want to rejoice in what that means for me as his disciple. I desire to grow in the virtue of loyalty. I know how Christ was loyal to you, Father, and I want to be a mirror of that loyalty to my family and my friends but most of all to you, just as your Son exemplified. I know that you give me opportunities to learn and practice the virtue of loyalty while on earth and I thank you for those opportunities and will do my best to embrace them. Please stay with me as I learn and keep my heart open to you and your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Kindness

“Father God, how blessed we are to pursue the virtue of kindness! What a treasure this virtue is to the world. Indeed, Jesus was kind to everyone he met because he wanted each person to love you and to spend eternity in heaven. He showed us that we can accomplish great things when we are kind. When he was kind to sinners he showed us that everyone has a place in heaven. Jesus also taught us that when we are kind to others, when we help others and love others, we are really loving Jesus, because Jesus is in every person. My desire is to show the same kindness to others that Jesus has shown to me. Help me, God, as I do my best to use this beautiful virtue to build up your kingdom here on earth.”

Purity

“Heavenly Father, how easy it is for me to forget that as a disciple my call is to purity! I may have not fully understood the way in which you have asked this of me but I will do my best to seek the virtue of purity. God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus because she was pure of heart and body. She helps us learn how purity is a way to honor God and live more joyfully as a true disciple of the King. When I cherish and protect purity of mind and body I know I am able to live with great happiness and peace. The world is filled with many opportunities to pollute my mind and even to steal my time when it would be better spent with you. I promise to commit myself to a purer existence by making choices that build up this precious virtue in my life so that I may be more pleasing to you.”
