Friend
The tale of Krishna’s friendship with Sudama is one of inspiration and humility.
Growing up in a poor family, Sudama lived in poverty throughout his adulthood while Krishna went on to become king of Dwarka. One day Sudama’s wife insisted that he visit his friend, but felt too ashamed to do so. After much convincing, he decided to go, bringing a bag of puffed rice as a gift for Lord Krishna.
When greeted by Sudama, Krishna noticed the small gift he had brought. Sudama, taking in the richness of Dwarka, felt that his gift was inadequate. Krishna graciously accepted the gift and the next day, showered Sudama and his family with many riches, including an abundance of food, clothes, and a large mansion.
