Menucha
Jews do not believe that God literally rested on the “seventh day”, because if God truly “rested,” everything would cease to exist. Instead, God brought into a being a special substance called menucha, which we see as an elevated capacity to experience a time of simple being. Many of us cease work, shut off our phones and computers, and avoid commerce, and physical rest does make up part of Shabbat (Sabbath), but the greatest aspect of Shabbat is menucha - that added capacity to simply experience a day of “it is enough that I am”.
