5 Prayers When You Feel Betrayed

Betrayal is a painful emotion that can rip apart our self-confidence, ability to trust, and leave us feeling empty. Having someone close to us that we love turn their backs on us, whether it be from a spouses infidelity or a friend’s backstabbing gossip, can break apart even the strongest person.

It feels like we need a miracle from the Lord to recover from betrayal. Powerful prayers will help us heal from the wrongdoings that were done to us. Believing that God can help us through the pain, and inviting Him and His angels in to do so, is a great first step in moving forward. These prayers will help eliminate you from negative emotions such as bitterness, desire for revenge, and anger. While it seems like a miracle right now is the only way you will get through this, know that with God you will not suffer forever.

Here are five prayers that will help you when you feel betrayed by someone close.

Prayer For Broken Trust

A loss of trust is inevitable when we are betrayed by someone we love. This can be hurtful and cause pain in other areas of our life. When the betrayal is significant, we start to have issues in being able to trust others as well. We do not want one person’s evil actions to ruin other relationships. Instead, ask God to help you trust in those who only want great things for you. When the time comes, you can talk with God about rebuilding trust with the person who hurt you as well.

Lord,

As I move forward with other relationships in my life, help me not to punish those who have goodwill toward me by assuming that they will betray me like people in the past have done. Help me to trust the people I know who are treating me well. If it is Your will, please help me to rebuild trust in the relationship of the one who hurt me, if they choose to reconcile with me. It will be a difficult process, but with Your grace I will work hard to create a foundation of trust in relationships.

Prayer For Self-Confidence

When we feel betrayed, it can take a stab at our self-confidence. We may feel that we were not good enough for the person, and that is why they chose to hurt us. But God does not want us to feel threatened by the people who hurt us. Instead, He wants us to learn from the pain and use it to become a stronger person.

God,

I’ve been betrayed by someone and I feel angry, sad and devastated. These feelings are consuming my thoughts and I feel miserable. I call upon Your love to lift me up and remind me I am worthy of being treated with love, honor and respect. I am learning that what You created within me cannot be altered, harmed or threatened by another person. If I choose to hold on to my feelings of pain and judgment, I will not feel the safety of Your love, or experience the happiness and abundance I deserve. I’m willing to trade these miserable feelings for the peace that You have for me. I’m willing to forgive this person, release my grievance and turn this over to You. As I choose to forgive, I open myself to receive Your enormous blessings and miracles. I gladly exchange this pain for the freedom and happiness I deserve.

Prayer For Peace

The pain that we feel after being betrayed can be stronger than any other painful emotion we might have felt. Sometimes, the pain can feel like it is swallowing us up and drowning us in sorrow. Help me to remember that I will find peace in Your Son Jesus Christ. In Philippians 4:7 I am reminded of that peace, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Father,

Help us today to get over the memories and pain involved with having been betrayed by someone we loved and we thought loved us. Thank you for keeping us in perfect peace, regardless of circumstances beyond our control. We turn the hurt and pain over to you, cleanse our hearts and renew our spirits.

Prayer For Letting Go of Revengeful Urges

When we are feeling angry about betrayal, the natural thing you might want to do is hurt them back and seek revenge. However, God has taught us to pray for those who have betrayed us and not do more harm. As tempting as it is, revenge will only bring out dark emotions in us. As Romans 12:17-19 states: “Do not repay anyone evil for evil…If it possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge…‘I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

God,

Please help me see that revenge will only bring more hurt and anger, and will not make me feel closer to You. God please remind me that You are aware of my pain, and that You have not left my side. I know that You do not want me to hold evil in my heart, and instead I should trust that You will find justice for my hurt. Thank you Lord for listening to my prayers and taking away this pain!

Prayer For Forgiveness

When we are first betrayed, it can be hard to imagine a possible time when we would ever forgive that person. However, forgiveness is important in order to move forward with your life. It allows you to shake off any anger and doubt you have, and focus on the future. This prayer is a good option when you need help learning to forgive someone that has hurt you.

Father,

Bless me with the wonderful power of forgiveness, give me the grace to unconditionally forgive those who have done me wrong. Give me the strength to let go of all ill-will, the strength to forgive myself of my own failings and sins, knowing that you have already forgiven me. Free me of all anger, bitterness, hate and unforgiveness. I lift this person up to You, God, so that they may be able to forgive themselves for their betrayal of me as I work to forgive them.
