Being a woman is incredibly hard in today’s world. We are subject to so much judgment and ridicule on a day to day basis and it can begin to weigh down on our shoulders. On top of that, we try to go through life acting like we have everything together – from our relationships to our children to our jobs. The truth is, sometime things are actually falling apart. We might be arguing with our spouse, or have failing health issues. We might be struggling to stay afloat, but feel like we have nowhere to go.
When you feel like you just want to scream “I’m broken and my life is broken” know you are not alone. Woman all over are breaking in one way or another, and God is standing next to each and every one of them. He is here for you and wants your broken heart to know these truths.
You are not alone.
God is always going to be standing next to you every step of the way. God cares about you personally, and will never leave you alone to fight your problems. In Matthew 28:20 we are reminded of this: "And lo, I am with you always." God will be with you through it all, no matter what terrible situation you are facing. He not only is standing next to you, He is also there to give you comfort. John 14:18 reads "I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you."
You can pray to God.
When you are feeling broken and faced with hardships, God wants you to turn to Him in prayer. Jeremiah 29:12 says “Then shall you call upon me, and you shall go and pray unto me, and I will hear you. And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.” When you feel there is no one to chat with, even your closest girlfriends, you can turn to God for a friend. He will not only listen, but give your heart the advice it truly needs.
You can choose to find joy.
When you are broken and feeling down, you might not see any silver linings (or feel guilty looking for one). God wants to remind you that it’s perfectly alright to be happy, or trying to create happiness. The word “joy” is in the Bible 165 times, and that’s no mistake. God wants you to feel joy in your heart and tells us this in Galatians 5:22 which reads; "But the fruit of the Spirit is joy."
Your future is bright.
When we feel like we made a mistake or lost everything, we can be comforted by knowing that this moment isn’t the end of your story. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Nothing you ever do, or nothing that will ever happen to you, can disrupt the awesome plans God has for your future. God promised to work all the lows of your life into a beautiful story that is worth sharing. There is a bigger picture to see here, and no matter how broken you are now this isn’t the end of your life.
Release whatever weighs you down.
Don’t harbor pain, anger, rejection and sadness in your heart. Whatever negative emotion is weighing on your shoulders needs to be set free and cast onto God. God can carry the anxiety and pain you feel, so that your mind can relax. He wants to help you through this pain, you just have to choose to give the pain to Him. You can also ask Him to help you forgive those who have wronged you. Luke 6:37 teaches: "Be merciful, don't judge or condemn others. Forgive that you may be forgiven". When you choose to show mercy to those that have hurt you, you will feel more relieved and at peace with yourself.
You are loved.
One thing broken people feel the most is unwanted, unloved and uncared for. But God love you, with all of His heart and more than you could ever comprehend. No matter how forgotten you think you are, God is wrapping His loving arms around you. Jeremiah 31:3 reiterates this, saying “I have loved you with an everlasting love”. The brokenness in your heart may be blinding you from this fact, so clear your head and tell yourself the truth: you are loved by God.
You aren’t defined by this moment.
No matter how empty you feel now, this one moment in time does not define who you are. You identity will never be wrapped up as your failures, bad luck, or misfortunes. God made your identity as a child of His. You are a Christian and that is the identity you should be praising. He is the only one that can label you – and He has determined that you are a beautiful masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10 echoes this, saying “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
No matter how alone you feel, how broken you think you are, or how worried you are about your future – God is standing right there with you. He has some truths that come straight from the Bible that He wants all His daughters to understand. Being a woman is hard enough in today’s world, so don’t try to navigate it without the Lord’s help. When you are feeling broken, turn to Him for healing.
