The Guide to Letting the Angels Fight Your Battles

Sometimes, human strength just isn’t enough to fight through the challenges life throws our way. In these moments, allowing the divine to fight for us can make all the difference. Many are the stories of those who have been saved by God’s angels, rescued from anything from bad decisions to certain death by their supernatural intervention.

In the Bible, angels are the hands of God, doing His work on earth by sending messages, providing guidance and protection, and yes—even going to battle.

But there are many misconceptions about how to obtain angelic aid. There isn’t any magic set of words, no incantation or ceremony that will help you do this. No—calling on angels is, in many ways, much easier than you might think.

Although in a few ways, it’s harder.

Angels are intimately connected to God—they are intermediaries between Him and humankind. As such, it is through your relationship with God that you can ask the angels for help. And so while you don’t have to memorize any specific prayers, songs, or chants, the stronger that relationship is, the more likely you’ll receive what you ask for.

Bolster Your Faith

The foundation of asking for divine help lies in faith—this is your direct line to the heavens.

You can begin by familiarizing yourself with the promises God makes in scripture. Psalm 34:7, for instance, reminds us that “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.”

In 2 Kings 19, King Hezekiah prayed to God for aid against the marauding armies at the doorstep of his realm, and that night, an angel was sent out, singlehandedly defeating that army.

These are just a fraction of the many examples and promises of angelic protection that are scattered throughout the Bible. Use these verses to bolster your faith in God’s protection.

Faith is powerful. Christ says that everything is possible for those who believe. Take Him up on that by believing that God, in his love, will protect you.

Once you do that, you’re ready to ask for—and receive—some angelic help.

Recognize Your Power

To confidently call on the power of the angels, you need to know just how much power you really have to do so, and where that power comes from.

We humans don’t have direct authority over angels—they answer only to God. But we do have power in the form of love—God loves us so much that He is willing to send His angels when we ask.

Consider this: you are made in the image of God. You are of royal blood, sons and daughters of the King. As Hebrews 1:13-14 says, “To which of the angels did God ever say, ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’ Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”

The angels are here for you, and are a living expression of God’s love. And in this way, that love is the most powerful force in the universe.

Choose Your Angel Wisely

There are only two angels specifically named in the Bible—Michael and Gabriel. But they’re certainly not the only angels—many verses speak of uncountable numbers.

Angels are also regimented, and exist in a hierarchy. Each one has its own unique function, status, and level of ability. Because of this, choosing what angel you’d like to call upon can help you receive just the help you need.

Michael, for instance, is the angel of battle, leadership, strategy, and above all, protection. If you find yourself in physical danger, or just in need of courage, he is the one to ask for.

Gabriel, on the other hand, is all about communication. If you’re having an issue negotiating with someone, whether that be your boss or spouse, Gabriel is best suited to help.

Raphael’s purpose lies in healing, both of the body and mind. If you’re feeling ill, ask for him.

Uriel is great at helping us heal emotionally, and to help us recover from deeply entrenched past hurts.

Raguel is the angel of harmony and peace, and can help restore broken relationships.

While there are simply too many angels to name, these are the angels that handle our most common problems. If you’re just not sure who you need, though, you can always say that in your prayers—God understands.

Pray Consistently

This is it. We’ve come to the most essential step in getting angels to fight your battles: consistent prayer.

“Ask and you will receive” may sound cliché, but it’s true. But many people find themselves with unanswered prayers because they don’t ask in the right way.

Consider the ultimate example of how to pray—the Lord’s Prayer. More than just a template for prayer, the Lord’s Prayer shows us how to pray with the right mindset. In asking for angelic help, the first few lines are the most important.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” shows us that when we ask for divine help, it should be because we want God’s Will to be done, and not necessarily our own. “Give us this day our daily bread,” tells us that we can ask for the necessities of life—our daily bread—and that God will provide.

Angelic help is powerful—we can’t ask for it for a selfish reason. When you pray with the right mindset, and do this consistently, though, the hosts of angels will be put at your disposal, and there will be no limit to what you can accomplish.

Show Gratitude

Finally, after asking for angelic help to fight your battles, it’s always helpful to show gratitude.

This is actually more for you than for God or His angels. Maintaining gratitude helps you maintain the mindset which will enable you to obtain angelic help in the future.

Pride is the bane of the faithful. When the angels fight your battles and help you win out against your troubles, it can be tempting to feel as if you did it all on your own, or that these forces are wholly at your command.

Remember this: all power flows from God. Show your gratitude in the form of prayer and praise, and you’ll do much to maintain a humble heart.

The rest of the world may tell you the opposite, but the humbler you are, the more powerful you are, and the more you truly deserve that power. Cultivate this attitude by thanking God and the angels each time they carry you through life’s most difficult moments.
