Faith plays a huge role in our journey alongside God. Hebrews 11:1 tells us faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Faith is knowing that the reward is there, even when we can’t see it. The Special Olympics network is arguably one of the purest examples of this in its reflection of walking bravely, without fear. Here are four things we can learn about faith from the Special Olympics. Let these lessons be a source a strength, courage and inspiration on your journey.

To Be Strong and Courageous

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” -Joshua 1:9

The motto of the Special Olympics reads: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt.” These words can easily be connected with our faith, and encouraging others on our faith journeys. When we talk about and share our faith with others, we should be brave in our attempts, always open and encouraging. When it comes to our faith, and sharing our beliefs, God wants us to not fear or dread the forces that may work against us but to trust Him, the One who will never leave or forsake us. One of the reasons these athletes continue to inspire is because we see that same spirit reflected in their walk.

To Give Back to Others In Need

"You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." -2 Corinthians 9:11

God wants us to give back, to be generous, to volunteer our time and encourage others. The Special Olympics volunteer network of 750,000 people around the world and more than 300,000 coaches around the world is a great reflection of the power of giving back, and being cheerful in that giving. We shouldn’t give because we feel bad, or we think we can earn points from God. We should give back because it’s a huge reflection of God’s love for us.
