Speed to Glory
“Once Ronald embraced Cullen’s love for the water, he was all in,” writes Miller in Speed to Glory.” He took Cullen to the pool where he encouraged him and supported him, never missing a practice. Ronald continued his support even during the time when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. That news came on the heels of Debra’s own battle and victory over cancer. Yet Ronald was often at Cullen’s meets, even when he was reduced to using a wheelchair. Cullen was just sixteen years old when his father succumbed to cancer.
“When my dad passed, my faith was tested,” remembers Cullen. “I asked, ‘Why me?’ My mom told me there is a reason for everything even if we don’t know why.”
