Foundations Supporting Movember

Movember is the annual event that takes place during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues such as depression in men, prostate cancer, and other male cancers. Men, participating in the cause, grow a mustache for the month in hopes of changing the face of men's health. Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and the overall grand scheme is to reduce the number of preventable deaths.

The Movember Foundation began in 2004 - since then, the foundation has raised over $174 million worldwide. Since 2004, several foundations have developed in hopes of bringing further awareness to the cause and raising money to support research. No-Shave November

No-Shave November is a web-based, non-profit organization devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education. The goal of the month-long no shave journey is to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. No-Shave November asks participants to put down the razor for 30 days and donate the monthly hair-maintenance expenses to the cause.

The project was started in 2009, after Matthew Hill passed away from colon cancer in 2007. His eight children decided to ban together and fight for the cause of awareness and research. Since 2009, the family has raised over $2 million dollars. The organization began with just a few followers on Facebook and soon evolved into a nationwide celebration.

South Bay Mo Bros

The South Bay Mo Bros works within their community to raise funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation. Their vision is to give an everlasting impact on the face of men's health. While the team is relatively small, the organization ranks amongst the top five Movember teams in the United States. The foundation that evolved in 2013 has launched golf tournaments, raffles and other events to help support the cause.

Sandy Goodman is the team captain. After his father-in-law was diagnosed with inoperable prostate cancer, he dedicated his time and efforts to the cause. In 2013, Goodman and co-captain Lars Viklund formed the South Bay Mo Bros in hopes of sparking conversations about men's health issues within the South Bay community. The organization has a large backing with sponsors such as Jersey Mikes, Four Seasons, Rip Curl, Omni, Wells Fargo and a large list of other devoted businesses.
