Taking on Racism
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling shocked everyone with his racist comments including President Barack Obama. Allegedly Sterling was recorded having an argument with his girlfriend that she’s not to invite African Americans to games.
“It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you are associating with black people. Do you have to? You can sleep with (black people). You can bring them in. You can do whatever you want. The little I ask is not to promote it on that... and not to bring them to my games,” Sterling reportedly said.
In response to the comments, players removed their shooting shirts and revealed their warm-up shirts which were turned inside out before Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors in protest. There have been many before them that used non-violence as a weapon against racism like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohandas K. Gandhi and Oliver L. Brown. Here is a reminder, that we can take on racisim and win.
