Sandra Lerner met Leonard Bosack working at Stanford University, where they founded Cisco System with a group of people as they developed their first project - the first router.
Cisco Systems developed the Tactical Operations team to be able to quickly deploy support for natural disasters. Their fleet includes Network Emergency Response Vehicles, Mobile Command Vehicles, and Emergency Communication Kits, among many others, that cater to communities in need of immediate assistance after emergencies that affect communications.
While Sandra and Leonard have both left Cisco, much of their development legacy continues. Their re-branding effort in 2006 included a campaign to re-focus on "The Human Network", showcasing the need for individuals to continue to interact without relying solely on telecommunications and technology, linking the world together.
